The Los Angeles Kings are in desparate need of a victory or face going down 3-0 to the San Jose Sharks, but where is the betting value in the NHL Odds? Read on for a profitable NHL Pick for tonight.

It appears that San Jose Goaltender has a bit of a chip on his shoulders when facing his old team which has continued in the playoffs which is why the Sharks have a 2-0 series advantage.  Jones is 5-1-1 against the Kings after being shipped out to Boston in the Milan Lucic trade.

When you listen to Jones he is quick to remind you that it's the defense that has enabled him to find success,  The Kings are a team that likes to create havoc in front of the net hoping to create a quality scoring opportunity.  The Sharks have been able to limit the inside opportunities by keeping Los Angeles to the perimeter allowing Jones to have clean looks at the puck.  Jones owns a 2.00 goals against average through two games with a .922 save percentage.

It also doesn't help that the Kings have been sloppy especially in the transition game which contributed to the Kings turning the puck over 14 times. Sharks defensemen Brent Burns has been fantastic not just with his overall ability to force opposing players to wide of the net but his willingness to block shots has made a tremendous difference.  Burns has three points through the first two games.

San Jose has always been a successful organization but never could win the big one.  To a man they say this year is different even though their below .500 record at the SAP Center would suggest otherwise.  San Jose made the playoffs 10 straight years before from 2003-2004 through 2013-14, never finishing with a winning percentage below .585. Six of those years they were out by the second round and three times in the first.

The achilles heel for the Sharks during those runs has always been the power play unit they ranked 19th two seasons ago.  That carried into the playoffs and seemed to get worse.  This season the Sharks man advantage has cashed in over 22% of their chances and have seemed to carry that success into the postseason scoring on two of nine chances so far.

It's very important for the Sharks to get out early in this one because the Kings have never been a great come from behind team this season.  When trailing by a goal the Kings are near the bottom of the league in goals scored.  Their success comes from finding and early lead and then hang on by playing a sound defensive game hoping opposing teams with make a mistake helping them increase the lead.  The problem for the Kings is I don't think we've even seen the best offensive effort from the Sharks.

From a trend perspective this series has favored the Sharks since 1996 where they are 74-56 and 43-21 at home. A quick worthy injury note, Alec Martinez is questionable leaving the Kings with a big whole to fill if he's unavailable. So tonight our NHL Pick is on the 'under' 5 at -1.05 and then play the Sharks in the 1st period offered at -115 on the NHL Odds.
