Tuesday’s NHL betting card features eight games as the league stays before just before the All-Star Break. There are just two more nights before the All-Star festivities take over. Here’s our NHL picks for Tuesday:
Ottawa Senators vs. New York Rangers
Odds: Rangers -200
This is a matchup where we should see an under and quite frankly, it’s a bit surprising to see a total of 5.5. The goaltending on both sides should have this total listed at five but since there’s an extra half-goal, we’ll go under the number.
The Sens actually thrive in this series and goaltender Craig Anderson has won all six of his starters at Madison Square Garden. He has a 1.14 GAA there, which is his best at any venue that he’s played at more than once. He’s been playing well of late too, posting a 1.90 GAA in his last 11 starts.
As for the Rangers, their goaltender, Henrik Lundqvist, has been stellar over the last month. He’s won 13 of his last 15 outings while posting a 1.69 GAA in that span. That being the case, go under with your NHL picks here.
NHL Pick: Under 5.5 at 5Dimes
Pittsburgh Penguins vs. Philadelphia Flyers
Odds: Penguins -150
With Steve Mason out, the Philadelphia Flyers have been having a really tough time stopping their opponents from scoring. They’ve played six games since they lost Mason and have given up 21 goals in the process. Ray Emery has a save percentage of .743 this month while Rob Zepp is coming off a game where he yanked and has now given up three or more goals in three of his five starts.
However, the Flyers have actually won five straight against the Penguins with the main reason being that they have no problem scoring on goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury. He’s posted a 4.04 GAA in that span against the Flyers.
There has been at least six goals in three straight meetings between the sides and we’ll look for more of the same on Tuesday and bet the over.
NHL Pick: Over 5.5 at Bodog
Boston Bruins vs. Dallas Stars
Odds: Stars -115
The Bruins are playing really well right now and are worth a look against a very streaky Stars squad. Yes, Dallas has won three of four but prior to that, had lost four straight. Before that, they had won seven of eight but before that, they had lost five of six. In other words, they swing back and forth so be careful when looking over the NHL odds.
Boston is coming off a loss but had won five straight before that. They haven’t had a good year but this is a team that is talented and appears to be turning it around. The Bruins are 4-1 this season in road games where the total is set at 5.5 and 15-5 in their last 20 in that role. That being the case, I’ll take a flier with them in this spot since they’re basically a cheap road dog.
