Hockey Night in Canada New Era
The Maple Leafs will host the Penguins on Saturday at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto with the opening puck drop slated for 7:05 PM ET. According to NHL betting odds, the Penguins are a -135 money line favorite, and the posted total is 5.5.  Pittsburgh has won 4 of the last 5-meeetings versus Toronto, but has dropped 4 of their last 6 at the Air Canada Centre.

This begins a new area of the weekly Hockey Night in Canada telecasts on Saturday nights. It’s become a Canadian tradition for over the last six decades, and up to this year was aired by the CBC. However, this season, TSN has purchased the broadcasting rights, taking over the honor, and the privilege, of bringing the telecast to homes all across Canada.

Penguins in Tonight’s Role
The Penguins went a solid 23-18 on the road during last year’s regular season, and saw just 16 of those 41-games (39%) go over the total. They were also a very good 19-11 when they were installed as a road money line favorite. Pittsburgh opened the season with a 6-4 home win over the Anaheim Ducks. Since 12/20/2011, the Penguins have gone 8-1 in their last 9, and 14-3 in the last 17 overall following a game in which they scored 6-goals or more.

Leafs in Tonight’s Role
Toronto opened the season at home this past Wednesday, and suffered a 4-3 loss at the hands of the Montreal Canadiens. Since the start of last season, the Leafs have gone under the total in only 9 of their last 34-games at home (26.5%). They finished last season by going over the total in 7 of their last 8 at the Air Canada Centre. Toronto has gone a dismal 3-9 in their last 12-games following a home loss.
