Our NHL odds consultant shares his two top totals selections on Sunday’s card. Go inside to find out what those picks are and why he’s chosen them.

Ottawa Senators vs. New York Rangers 7:05 PM ET
Ottawa is coming off a road overtime win at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn last night. They’ve gone 8-1 under the total in away games the past two seasons when playing with no rest. These teams met once this season, and the Rangers came away with a 2-1 win at Ottawa on 11/14.

After a torrid 13-2 run in which they averaged 3.4 goals per contest during that fifteen game period, the Rangers have cooled considerably since that time. They’ve lost five of their last six games, and scored just a combined 101 goals during that stretch.

Ottawa is coming off 3-2 and 4-3 wins in their previous two games. The Rangers are coming off a pair of 2-1 losses in their last two outings. Any team (Senators) coming off two straight wins by one goal, versus an opponent (Rangers) coming off two consecutive games in which there were a combined 3 goals or less scored, resulted in those contests going 64-28 (69.6%) under the total since 1996.

According to NHL betting odds at, they offer me a best combination of number and price for this specific wager.

NHL Pick: Play on under the total of 5.5 (-135) at The Greek

Tampa Bay Lightning vs.  Los Angeles Kings 10:05 PM ET
Tampa Bay has seen just 8 of their 27 games go over the total this season, and that equates to a paltry 29.6% of the time. They’ve scored 2 goals or less in six of their last eight games.

Jonathan Quick was in goal for the Kings during last night’s 5-3 home win over Pittsburgh. In all likelihood, we’ll see backup Jonas Enroth between the pipes tonight. That’s not bad news whatsoever since he’s shined when given opportunities this season. Enroth has compiled a spectacular .962 save percentage in four starts and one relief appearance.

Tampa Bay is a very good defensive that which is allowing 2.3 goals per game on the year. The Lightning is coming of two consecutive wins with each coming by a 1 goal margin. Any team (Lightning) that’s allowing 2.4 goals or less per game, and is coming off back to back one goal wins, resulted in those games going 58-27 (68.2%) under the total during the past three seasons.

I’m calling for this game to be a low scoring affair, and one of my Sunday NHL picks will emulate that projection.

NHL Pick: Play on under the total of 5.0 (+107) at BetOnline
