Our handicapper provides us with a betting preview article on Thursday’s game between Boston & Washington. Go inside to read this compelling piece which includes his NHL pick.

Clash of Eastern Conference Heavyweights
The Capitals and Bruins square off on Thursday in a battle of teams coming off losses. The opening faceoff at the Verizon Center in Landover, Maryland is slated for 7:05 PM ET. Current NHL odds at 5Dimes indicates that Washington is a -140 money line favorite. This will be the first meeting of the season between these clubs. Washington dominated Boston a season ago, not only winning all three encounters, but shutting out the Bruins on all of those occasions.

Both Teams off a Loss
The Boston Bruins had their four game winning streak halted on Tuesday during a 5-3 loss to Dallas. Thursday will be the first of a three game in four day road trip for Boston. That’s not all bad news considering the Bruins are a perfect 5-0 on the road this season, and four of those five victories came as a money line underdog. Hypothetically, if you made $100 money line wagers on Boston in each of their away games, it would’ve resulted in a profit of $655 thus far. The Bruins power play has been outstanding to this point, going 13-for-38 (34.2%) with their man advantage opportunities.

Washington is coming off a rare bad performance this season. They sustained a 5-2 loss at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday versus the Rangers. It was just their second loss in their last nine games. The Capitals special teams play has been excellent in this early part of the season. Washington is converting on 22.6% of their power play chances thus far. However, Boston has gone 49-23 the past three seasons when facing an opponent who cashes in on 19% or more of their power play chances.

Final Analysis and Pick
Despite Washington’s road loss to the Rangers in their previous game, they still have an outstanding 8-3 (.727) money line record this season. The problem in that regard, NHL betting history suggests fading Washington in this exact situation. When playing against any money line home favorite of -200 or less, coming off a road loss, and has a .700 or better money line record, resulted in going 25-11 (69.4%) since 1996. Although this betting angle has come up just 36 times in 19 years, it has gone a perfect 2-0 already this season. I like the value with the money line road underdog in this game for one of my NHL picks.
