NHL Picks: Stars +122
Best Line Offered: at Heritage

Dallas Stars (37-15-5)
The Dallas Stars are sat at the top of the Central division with a 37-15-5 mark and 79 points. Although they are tied with Chicago Blackhawks on points, they have three games in hand. Nevertheless, they’ll be looking to pull ahead with a win over St. Louis Blues, as Chicago sits out the day’s card ahead of a clash with the NY Rangers on Wednesday.

The Stars are riding a four-game winning streak into tonight’s date in St. Louis, a run of form that includes wins over Minnesota, Chicago, Washington and Nashville – three of which were on the road. Yet, the Stars emerge as the significant road underdogs in money line betting markets, anywhere from +115 (at William Hill) to +122 (Heritage).

Overall, the Stars boast a 20-7-0 mark at home and a 17-8-5 mark on the road. Recent form stands at 8-2-0 in their last ten and they have a plus 33-point goal differential having scored 187 goals and conceded 154 goals. In fact, the Stars are second in the league in goals per game scored with a whopping 3.2 average.

But they’ve struggled against the Blues, pulling off just one win in three meetings this season. The Stars lost the first meeting 3-0 in St. Louis on December 12. Then they lost 3-2 in shootout on Boxing Day in St. Louis. The following day, however, they finally cracked the win column against the Blues with a 3-0 win in Dallas.

St. Louis Blues (32-17-9)
The St. Louis Blues ride a two-game  winning streak into this game, looking to make it three in a row when they take on the Dallas Stars. A win tonight would also mark their third win over this familiar foe on the season, and if the NHL odds were any indication they’ve got a shot to do just that.

As it is, odds makers hang the hosts as the favorites on the NHL odds board. Pinnacle sports opened with the Blues as the -135 favorites and they’ve remained relatively close to that mark – now down to -133 NHL odds, hardly a relevant drop. Best current price trading is at BetOnline and Bet365 where the Blues are as low as -130, Again, a nominal difference.

Across the board the Blues are the clear-cut faves to win and enough of the public agrees (51% according to consensus betting polls) is on the Blues in money line markets to win outright.

Overall, the Blues are 32-17-9 on the season, which includes a 17-9-4 mark at home and a 15-8-5 mark on the road. They are 6-2-2 in their last ten games overall and 5-5-0 in their last ten home games. Crucially, they’ve lost two of their last three home dates: a 2-1 shootout to Winnipeg and a 3-1 loss to the Sharks.

Betting Verdict
These familiar foes are gearing up for their fourth clash of the season, By the NHL odds, it’s obvious the hosts are expected to come through on the sports betting floor and the public is slightly leaning that way too. We’re of a mind to fade the public and shade the road underdogs on our NHL picks, simply because they have the momentum right now as well as the incentive of top spot dangling before them in the Central division standings.
