Although this series has gone ‘over’ three of the first four games, champion handicapper Dana Lane says its time for the Caps to get back to their defensive roots.

This is why we don’t play large units.  If you’re going through a weak spot in your handicapping it allows you to withstand a few losses without crushing your overall bankroll but tonight we’re upping the stakes a bit.

The opening number provided a bunch of 5.5’s but after a little shopping we found a 6 at a reasonable price.  Currently, both Heritage and Wagerweb are at 6 but with the majority of the early bets coming in on the ‘over’ there could be a few more books to go a half goal higher as the day progresses.

5 of the last 7 meetings have gone over the total between these two squads but I’m betting that after three easy ‘overs’ in the series, that both teams will settle down in game five.

Remember, had it not been for four early 1st period Caps goals, Washington only scored one more time the rest of the game, while holding Barry Trotz’s team to just 12 shots over the last two periods.

The best available number is available at where they offer a sweet reduced juice promotion.

You might look at the 14 goals that Braden Holtby allowed through four games and think he hasn’t played well.  I will say he isn’t as sharp as he was during the regular season but a high percentage of those goals were not scores Holtby could do much about.  Regardless, there has been a lot of talk about his play which almost always inspires a player to find that extra 5% to insure a quality performance.

From the Capitals perspective they’re making a lot of mistakes and as we’ve said before, mistakes often lead to offensive chances.   Limit mistakes, limit Leafs scoring chances.  Let’s not lose sight of the fact that the Capitals were the league’s best defensive team this season.  Time to get back to basics for the Caps holding this game under the total.
