You may be shocked to find out who this NHL handicapper picks between the red-hot Islanders & the hapless Oilers on Sunday night. We have the inside NHL betting scoop on this contest.

Isles at Rexall Place in Edmonton on Sunday Night
The Edmonton Oilers will entertain the New York Islanders tonight at with the opening faceoff scheduled for 9:35 PM ET. According to the NHL betting odds at Bookmaker, the Islanders are a -190 money line favorite, and the posted total is 5.5. This will be the first meeting of the season between these teams, and the home side has won 11 of the previous 12 encounters.

Continuing to Roll
The New York Islanders just keep on keeping on for lack of a better phrase. They enter tonight having won their last 3 and 7 of the last 9. They’ve gone a terrific 19-6 against the money line this season following a win. Tonight will be the Islanders 3rd of a 7-game in 14-day road trip. Their probable starting goaltender for tonight is Jaroslav Halak, and he’s played exceptionally well this season. Halak has gone 21-6 in 27-starts with a solid .918 save percentage. He’s been especially good recently by going 4-0 in his last 4-starts while compiling a stellar .925 save percentage.

Never-Ending Futility
The Edmonton Oilers continue to explore the extreme depths of failure. They enter tonight off two consecutive overtime defeats, and have now lost 11 of their last 12, in addition to 23 of the last 25. They will be facing an opponent tonight (Islanders) that averages 3.1 goals per game. Edmonton has seen all six of their games this season go under the total when facing an opponent that averages 3.0 goals or more per contest, and there was just an average of 4.2 goals combined scored in those affairs. The Oilers have also seen just 3 of their last 21-games versus Eastern Conference opponents go over the NHL betting odds total.

NHL Money Line Betting System
I’ve already mentioned the fact that Edmonton has lost each of their previous two games in overtime. The Islanders are coming off a 2-1 win at Calgary, and a 5-2 victory at Winnipeg in their previous two games. That leads us into a money line betting system which favors the underdog, and I’m willing to take that calculated risk for one of my NHL picks on Sunday.

Any team coming off two straight overtime losses, versus an opponent that allowed two goals or less in each of their previous two games, has gone 53-31 (63.1%) against the money line since 1996.
