The San Jose Sharks Can Win Because…
They’ve owned the Ducks this season. The Sharks have taken five of the last six meetings between the teams, managing to score at least three goals in every single matchup this year.
The Ducks are having all sorts of issues these days, dropping two of three. They are just 6-5 in their last 11 games. That’s not very good for a team that’s supposed to be among the best in the NHL. The Ducks aren’t even that good at home anymore. They were the last team to lose on their home ice in regulation this year but have dropped five of eight at home. They’re vulnerable and the Sharks can take advantage.
The Anaheim Ducks Can
San Jose is in their own slump. The Sharks have dropped five of eight, including an ugly 3-0 home loss to Nashville in their latest game. Goaltender Antti Niemi is just 2-2-0 in his last four outings with a 3.02 GAA. He’s also just 1-3-0 in his last four in Anaheim with a 3.82 GAA. As for Ducks goaltender Jonas Hiller, he is 5-1-0 with a 1.95 GAA in his last seven home meetings with San Jose.
This is series where the home team dominates. The Ducks have won eight of the last 11 home meetings with San Jose, so factor that in when you’re making your hockey picks.
Outlook & Pick
Jonas Hiller has hit a brick wall for the Ducks, which is why I can’t take them in this spot. He’s registered just two wins in his last 10 at home after starting 14-0-2 on the Duck Pond this season. That being the case, I’ll look to the over as neither team are playing particularly well between the pipes. The over is also 17-11 for the Sharks in road games with a total of 5.5 on the hockey odds board and 4-1 when the Ducks come off of a shut out win.
