San Jose Sharks vs. Anaheim Ducks
Even when I'm on the road we managed to cash tickets. It wasn't easy last night but the Sharks managed to get the job done on a power-play goal by Tomas Hertl early in the third period. This has been an amazing start to 2018 which is just an extension off of our scorching 2017. Keep reading and keep winning.
We'll stay with our friends in the Bay Area as they'll play the second of back to back nights at the Honda Center against the Anaheim Ducks.
I usually look to play TOTALS when a team is in a short turnaround situation because fatigue, especially late in the game, should lead to uncharacteristic play. The general public will still bet games based on what the statistics tell them without taking into account the human element. As expected, the UNDER is getting crushed with 81% of the ticket count. It does make sense, the Sharks are one of the league's elite defensive units against one of the league's worst offensive teams in Anaheim. I get it but if common sense was all you needed to be a winner then there wouldn't be any Sportsbooks.
We've talked before about teams being out of rhythm when they don't have time to mentally prepare for the next game. When you play back to back to back, especially in a travel day traveling, teams are out of sync. Players are used to playing and at least having a day off in between games. When that doesn't occur it seems to change a teams dynamics. The Sharks have been no different. In four of their last five back to back games the OVER has cashed.
Pete DeBoers team found themselves in this situation in early January with the second game against Ottawa ending in an 11 goal, 6-5 Senators win in overtime. In mid-December, the Sharks and the Canucks allowed 7 goals in a 4-3 Canucks win after the Sharks played in Calgary the night before.
Goaltending will always be a factor when betting TOTALS so make sure to find a website that gives you accurate starting goaltender information. Usually, you'll find out for sure during practice with the first goaltender off the ice being the clear signal of who is starting that night.
Tonight, Aaron Dell Is the confirmed starter for the Sharks and John Gibson is likely for the Ducks.
In 14 starts this year Dell has been sensational with an 11-3-2 record along with a sparkling 2.18 goals against average and a .928 save percentage. It's his team now but the one scenario we haven't seen is how does he respond on back to back nights. I'm betting he won't be as sharp as he was in his 31 save effort last night against Pittsburgh.
The Ducks are coming off of a low scoring, emotional, 2-1 victory over the Los Angeles Kings, Friday night, giving the public another acorn of reasoning for their wagers tonight and it makes sense. I can definitely see why the betting public is on the UNDER but this game reeks of being too easy and when it smells too good to be true it usually is. I'll take the plus money and the OVER 5.5 for my NHL picks today.
Now for the long trip home to Vegas from Salt Lake.
