We’ll be examining the NHL game tonight between Ottawa and Los Angeles. Take the time to read our insightful NHL betting preview article on this contest which culminates with a pick on the total.
Ottawa performing in Hollywood Tonight
The Los Angeles Kings will play host to the Ottawa Senators tonight at 10:35 PM ET. According to the NHL betting odds at Heritage, the Kings are a -216 money line favorite, and the posted total is 5.0. These teams met once this season and the Kings came away with a 5-3 win at Ottawa. Ottawa has lost their last six games played at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
Senators Rookie Goaltender making a Splash
The Ottawa Senators will be without the two top goaltenders on their depth chart for an indefinite period of time. Robin Lehner is sidelined with a concussion, and Craig Anderson is out with a hand injury. Enter rookie Andrew Hammond who has started each of the Senators previous three games, going 3-0, and compiling an excellent .967 save percentage. By the way, those were the first three starts of Hammond’s NHL career, and he posted his first ever shutout in last night’s 3-0 win at Anaheim. The Senators have now gone under the total in each of their last four games on the road.
Kings back to playing their Style of Hockey
The Los Angeles Kings enter tonight having won their last eight games in a row. During that time they’ve outscored the opposition by a cumulative margin of 29-13. The Kings haven’t seen any of their previous five games go over the total, and allowed only a combined five goals during that span. One of the more welcomed sights for the Kings has been the stellar play of Jonathan Quick in goal. Quick has been magnificent in his last four starts, compiling a stupendous .966 save percentage, and posting one shutout. The Kings are now looking very reminiscent of the team which reached each of the past three Western Conference Finals, and captured two of the previous three Stanley Cups.
The Kings are back to their old ways of playing suffocating defense and receiving spectacular goaltending. When they’re in this mode, grinding out low scoring wins come with vast regularity. In all likelihood, the Senators will ride with their hot rookie goaltender Andrew Hammond this evening. I like this one to be a low scoring affair, and my NHL picks on Thursday will be indicative of just that.
