Our handicapper shares his two top totals NHL picks for Saturday. Don’t make a move on the Pittsburgh/Toronto and Winnipeg/Columbus games without first reading this betting preview article.

Penguins vs. Maple Leafs 7:05 PM ET
Pittsburgh has gone 7-1-2 under the total this season. The one game that went over the number was on Wednesday in a 4-3 home win over Buffalo. In that contest, Jeff Zatkoff made his first start of the season, and he stopped 50 of 53 shots on goal from Buffalo. It will be Marc-Andre Fleury back between the pipes on Saturday. Fleury has gone 7-0-2 under the total in nine starts overall, and that includes 4-0 on the road where he’s compiled an excellent .949 save percentage.

Toronto will be facing an opponent (Penguins) tonight that’s killed off 87.5% of power play chances against them this season. The Leafs are 15-3 under the total during the past two seasons when facing opponents with an 85.5% or better penalty killing efficiency.

I like this game to be a low scoring affair, and one of my NHL picks on Saturday will echo that sentiment.

Jets vs. Blue Jackets 7:05 PM ET
When NHL odds show a total of 5.5 on Winnipeg road games during the past two seasons, the Jets have gone 16-8 (66.7%) over the total. Winnipeg will be facing an opponent (Columbus) tonight that’s allowing an average of 3.90 goals per game this season. The Jets are 34-19 (64.2%) over the total during the past three seasons when facing an opponent that allows 2.85 or more goals per game. The Jets are averaging 3.7 goals per game in for road contests this year. They’re also allowing opponents a sizable average of 36.0 shots on goal over their previous five outings.

Columbus should be able to generate plenty of scoring opportunities tonight based on what I stated in my last sentence, and in addition to their average of 34.5 shots on goal at home this year. The Blue Jackets are allowing a dismal 5.2 goals per game at home thus far. Columbus is coming off a 2-1 road loss at Washington last night. They’ve gone 17-5 (77.3%) over the total during the past two seasons following a road loss.

NHL Picks: Play on over the total of 5.5 (-103) at 5Dimes
