First Saturday in over three months without a lot of college football. But that's fine for people like us because we have hockey odds from the sportsbooks to ponder on and rake in profits.

Last night we saw hot teams continue to roll like Los Angeles and Dallas, while clubs like Minnesota and the New York Rangers are struggling on the road. What should we look at for today for sports betting picks? Here is what I have put on my plate:

All NHL odds are from YouWager.

Dallas Offers Great Value As Road Underdog

I am not going to lie, as a hockey handicapper I was rather amazed to see Dallas as +125 underdog at St. Louis. The Stars have the best record in the NHL at 22-7 SU, have the second-best score differential at +26 and are 11-2-2 on the road. Frame this up against slumbering St. Louis, who has lost four of five and seven of 11.

The Blues (16-13 SU) offense has gone chilly with nine scores in past five games and coach Ken Hitchcock thinks he knows the problem. ''We stopped checking,'' Hitchcock said. The coach also went on to question his team's toughness and willingness to give or take the hit.

At least St. Louis will be more rested, having played Thursday, while Dallas beat Philadelphia at home last evening 3-1.

I'm the first to acknowledge St. Louis is a remarkable 18-4 off a home loss, however, two of those defeats have come in the last couple weeks. Besides the Stars outstanding road record, they are 15-2 against teams which average 29.5 or more shots on goal and 10-0 facing opponents with winning record. The matchup seems too favorable to pass on.

Flames Stay Hot On Home Ice

Internet reports on the team pages have talked about the resiliency of the Calgary (12-16 SU) despite health issues. The Flames have are 4-0 on the current homestand and have done this in spite of the flu making it around the locker room. Several players have taken ill, some even during games, yet the Flames have still worked well as a unit, particularly on offense and scored 17 times at Scotiabank Saddledome in this stretch.

In all, the Calgary has won eight in a row at home and has moved up to 12th in scoring on home ice at 2.93 goals a game. The New York Rangers continue to stumble, losers of seven of nine, they have seen their record crumble to 18-12 SU and last night gave up a humiliating seven goals in 7-5 loss at Edmonton.

This contest will wrap up the Rangers three-game western Canada swing and they better find answers quick or the Flames Sean Monahan will continue to ring up points, having 11 in last seven home games. Not sure about New York these days, thus I'll stick with Calgary for NHL picks as +106 home underdogs to stay simmering on home ice.

Nashville Has Edges Over Colorado

Nashville got a much needed victory in its last outing against Chicago 5-1, getting them back above .500 at 15-14 SU. That was only the Predators fourth win in a dozen tries and they will look to continue to play the victorious home role in this matchup.

The home team has won eight of 12 in these contests, including the past four straight. Colorado (12-17 SU) arrives in the Music City off a 4-2 home loss to Pittsburgh. The Avalanche offense has been sputtering, with eight goals in five contests. Coach Patrick Roy is looking for more production from his players besides Matt Duchene, who has 14 goals in his last 18 games.

Nashville opened as -175 money line favorite and while Colorado is 9-3 off a home loss by two or more goals, the Preds are a scintillating 29-4 at home after a blowout win by four goals or more.
