There are a whopping 13 games on the NHL betting card on Saturday as 26 of the 30 teams are in action. That means there’s plenty to pick from for our nightly selections:
Boston Bruins vs. Florida Panthers
Odds: Bruins -110
The Boston Bruins have hit a bit of a slump as they’ve dropped three straight games. They’ve had three disappointing efforts in a row, losing to the Washington Capitals and Ottawa Senators – two teams that they’re fighting with for the last playoff spot in the Eastern Conference, and then sandwiched in a home loss to the Buffalo Sabres.
The good news is that they get to square off with a Florida Panthers team on Saturday that they dominate. They have won their last three trips to Florida and have won nine straight in this series.
The Panthers are just 13-21 versus teams with a winning record this season and have won just four of their last nine home games. This is a spot where the Bruins should get the win.
NHL Pick: Bruins -120 at 5Dimes
Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Ottawa Senators
Odds: Senators -230
The Toronto Maple Leafs have all but packed it in as they’ve lost four straight and seven of eight. The reason you can tell they’ve basically quit on the season is because they’ve only managed three goals in their last three games. The Leafs have been one of the better scoring teams in the league this season but when they’re barely making a mark on offense, you can tell that they aren’t trying too hard.
They’ll be facing a Senators team that’s making a push for the playoffs on Saturday. The Sens have been one of the league’s best teams over the last few weeks as they’ve won five straight and 13 of 15. Although Sens goaltender Andrew Hammond gave up four goals to the Bruins in the team’s latest win, Hammond hadn’t allowed more than two goals in any other contest before that. That being the case – combined with the Leafs lackluster offense – I’m going to go under the NHL odds total here.
NHL Pick: Under 5.5 at Bovada
Pittsburgh Penguins vs. Arizona Coyotes
Odds: Penguins -220
The Coyotes are an absolute mess (as they have been most of the season) and enter Saturday’s affair on a six-game losing streak. They’ve essentially stopped scoring goals as they have a total of five goals in their last six. They are the league’s lowest scoring team since the All-Star break, averaging just 1.60 goals per outing. Meanwhile, the 3.12 that they’re allowing in that span is the third-worst number in the NHL. The -1.52 goals per game that they are getting outscored by is also a league-worst number.
With that in mind, I’m going to roll with Pittsburgh here. Arizona has basically quit on the season. Pittsburgh has lost four in a row but this is a spot where they can get some goals, get right and get back on track. Take the Pens with your NHL picks.
