It’s a full slate of NHL games on tap for Saturday. And our NHL betting guru Ross Benjamin provides you with analysis on his two best picks of the day. Read the revealing professional handicapping analysis he provides in the games between Boston/Buffalo and Colorado/Montreal.

Boston Bruins vs. Buffalo Sabres 7:05 PM ET
I’m going to focus on the puck-line in the Atlantic Division battle that will take place at the First Niagara Center in Buffalo. According to the NHL betting odds on the puck-line at 5Dimes, the Bruins are -1.5 (+135), and the Sabres are +1.5 (-155).

Sabres Futility Continues
The only shocking thing for me at this point regarding the Sabres, how did they even manage to win a game? They come off another atrocious effort at home last night in a 1-0 loss versus the Florida Panthers. The score wasn’t indicative of how the Sabres were dominated. Case in point, after two periods Florida had an enormous 32-6 shots on goal advantage. With all due respect to the Panthers, this was a Florida team that finished 15th overall in the Eastern Conference a season ago. The Sabres have now gone 0-3 at home this season, and have been outscored by a cumulative score of 9-2.

Rough Start for an Elite Team
This wasn’t the kind of start to the season that the Boston Bruins envisioned. They’ve gone 2-4 through their first 6-games. This continues to be one of the odds on favorites to win the Atlantic Division, and represent the Eastern Conference in the 2015 NHL Stanley Cup Finals. Similar to what many struggling teams will accomplish this year, they will get well by playing a pathetic Buffalo Sabres team tonight. I would suggest using the road team on the puck line as one of your NHL picks for tonight.

Colorado Avalanche vs. Montreal Canadiens 7:05 PM ET
According to the NHL betting odds at Bovada, the Canadiens are a -165 money line favorite in this clash with their Western Conference opponent this evening. Montreal has begun the season quite successfully by winning 4 of their first 5-games. The Canadiens are picking up right where they left off from a season ago, when they reached the NHL Stanley Cup Eastern Conference Finals, before being eliminated by the New York Rangers in 6-games. Their biggest obstacle heading into tonight is guarding against overconfidence, versus very good opponent, that’s vastly underachieved so far in the early going.

Rough Start for a Dangerous Team
Needless to say, the 1-4 start by the Colorado Avalanche has been a disappointment. The good news, there’s plenty of time to get the ship turned around in the right direction. After all, this was a club that finished 2nd overall in the Western Conference, and won the Central Division title a season ago. This looks to be a perfect spot for a quality team, at a sizable money line underdog price. My advice is to make the Colorado Avalanche as one of your NHL picks on Saturday.
