Saturday’s NHL card features a total of 24 teams in action starting bright and early with a few afternoon games. Two games start at 2:00 PM ET (Calgary-Buffalo and Los Angeles-Ottawa) and there will be action throughout the whole day with the last game starting at 10:00 PM ET.
Here are our picks for Saturday:
Dallas Stars vs. Winnipeg Jets
Both of these teams are struggling right now but I see the Stars as being a tad undervalued on the NHL odds here. Dallas is a +115 underdog even though they play better on the road (9-8) than Winnipeg does at home (7-11). Both teams have lost three of their last four games, so I see this as being a toss-up.
Keep in mind that this game is an early start, so you’ll have to get your bets in by 3:00 PM ET. All things being pretty much equal, I’ll take a shot with the dog.
NHL Pick: Stars +115 at Bodog
Montreal Canadiens vs. New York Islanders
The Montreal Canadiens have lost two straight but I see that as being a minor speed bump. I’m going to add them to my Saturday NHL picks as they are the significantly better team in this matchup.
The Islanders are a complete gong show these days as they’ve lost 11 of their last 12 games. It’s hard to believe that this was a playoff team with so much promise but they’ve fallen on hard times and have no confidence these days. On top of that, it will be their first game back home after a five-game west coast road trip, so they might be a tad flat-footed.
The Canadiens have lost two straight because their offense has been sluggish. They’ve scored just one goal in their last two games but that should change considering that the Isles are so welcoming to their opponents. The Isles have allowed four goals or more in seven of their last 12 and give up a whopping 3.48 per game. Look for the Canadiens offense to get back on track and to lead them to a win.
NHL Pick: Canadiens -140 at BetOnline
Boston Bruins vs. Vancouver Canucks
The Vancouver Canucks just keep on winning as they’ve now won six straight games. They continue to get the job done with great defense as they’ve shut out opponents in back-to-back games and have allowed just six goals during their six-game winning streak. However, I think Boston is a good candidate to end the Canucks hot stretch for a couple of reasons. For starters, the Canucks played on Friday, so they’ll be in a back-to-back situation. Secondly, the Bruins have had the Canucks number for a while dating back to the Stanley Cup final. Lastly, the Bruins are playing pretty good hockey themselves as they have four straight themselves. They don’t get much love in the national spotlight but they are 14-3-1 in their last 18 games. Since they’re posted as an underdog in this one, I see this as good value. I’ll add them to my sports picks on Saturday.
