The ‘over’ is 4-1-2 in the last seven meetings at the Joe but champion handicapper Dana Lane explains why this trend isn’t one to follow.

Buffalo Sabres vs Detroit Red Wings

It’s obvious that the Red Wings are not going to make the playoffs but it’s also obvious that the thought of doing the memory of the “Joe” proud has inspired them to play loose hockey, with a victory the Wings will have won three straight. Now the Sabres come into Detroit having to beat the Wings on two of three occasions this season, but it’s not the side that has me intrigued, it’s the ‘total’.

The best number we can find in totals at SBR approved Sportsbooks is 5. BetOnline has a generous +1247 on the 'Under' offering 50% back on your initial deposit up to the $2,500.

Jimmy Howard had been rumored to get the start for the Wings in the net but Peter Mrazek (16-19-7) was in the starters net at practice this morning.  Robin Lehner (19-21-8) is probable for the Sabres.

This is the first game back East for the Sabres after a West Coast trip that saw the Sabres score only three goals in three games against Anaheim, San Jose, and Los Angeles. Even in the Sabres, the only victory against Anaheim Friday, the Buffalo needed 10 shootout rounds to finish off the Ducks.  Nothing about their trip indicates that we can expect the Sabres to find their scoring touch. You can anticipate one thing from both of these squads, if this game goes over the ‘total’ it will be because one of these teams did some uncharacteristic. I don’t bet based on hoping I see a team do something that they haven’t done much of the season.  I play based on what I know teams to be and that’s two teams that are bad offensive teams.

Both teams are battling serious injuries

The Sabre injuries are so bad that they only had four defensemen at practice Sunday while having only three available against the Ducks. They will have defensive reinforcements from their AHL affiliate in Rochester which should provide a motivated effort from the Sabres.

Despite the public crushing the ‘over’ we’re going to be smarter and get some plus ‘under’ money.
