The ‘under’ has got the money in five of the Sabres last seven games against the Atlantic Division.  Champion handicapper Dana Lane explains why he anticipates a low scoring, playoff atmosphere tonight.

Toronto Maple Leafs vs Buffalo Sabres

Earlier this week I wrote a column talking about how the hockey world needs to wake up to this rivalry.  With these two clubs separated by just 100 miles, you can bet that this will be an intense playoff atmosphere not only between teams but between the Sabres Jack Eichel and the Leafs Auston Mathews. Eichel who missed 15 games with a high ankle sprain is playing with something to prove especially against Mathews who is one of the league's premiere young players.

The total opened at 5.5, shaded to the ‘over’ but the public and professionals are on the ‘over’ at a 68% clip, pushing the ‘total’ to 6 in some spots.

It’s not surprising to see the flow of early money coming in on the ‘over’ considering just nine days ago these two teams combined to score seven, with the Sabres continuing their dominance over the Leafs. Between the two teams, it was the Sabres who looked to be the more inspired, faster team.

Rule number one in gambling is to forget what you just saw, especially if your wager features two teams who have recently met.  In fact, I looked to bet the complete opposite of the previous outcome when it comes to ‘totals’.

The main strength of the Sabres is their power play which is the best in the league. The Leafs penalty kill should neutralize that, ranked 8th. The potential of special teams goals is a must consider aspect when handicapping ‘totals’, but remember, there are less penalties called this time of year because officials tend to let teams play more as the season winds down.

Toronto didn’t practice Sunday which is a move to give the guys some rest but any change schedule tends to break offensive cohesion.

Let's jump on the ‘under’ for our NHL pick, but make sure you find a six to get that extra insurance.
