Stepan Could Return Thursday or Friday
After taking three losses in four days last week, the New York Rangers bounced back with a 4-2 victory over the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday night. The Rangers were caught making uncharacteristic mistakes on defense during their three-game losing streak, but snapped out of it to earn a much-needed 4-2 victory against an Oilers team that had won six straight. Rick Nash and Mats Zuccarello each recorded a goal and an assist, while Henrik Lundvqvist made 18 stops to help the Rangers pull out the win. Thanks to some clever planning, Derek Stepan could return as early as Thursday against Minnesota or the next night versus Winnipeg if the team elects to hold him out of the back-to-back.

Kuemper Rolling Right Now
The Minnesota Wild lit the lamp up six times against the Vancouver Canucks on Tuesday night, cruising to a 6-2 victory. Minnesota broke out of a scoring slump, scoring four second period goals to pull away with the win. The Wild had scored just 10 goals over their past six games, but improved goaltending and play in the defensive zone led them to a 4-0-2 record during that span. Backup goalie Darcy Kuemper has filled in admirably in Devan Dubnyk’s absence. The 25-year-old is rolling right now, allowing two goals or less in each of his last five appearances, while sporting a pretty .922 save percentage. Minnesota ranks top-10 in the NHL in both goals per game (2.7) and goals against (2.3) so far this season.

Trends for New York:
9-3 in their last 12 vs. Central.
8-3 in their last 11 vs. a team with a winning record.
49-21 in their last 70 after allowing 2 goals or less in their previous game.

Trends for Minnesota:
Under is 6-1 in last 7 overall.
Under is 6-1-1 in last 8 after allowing 2 goals or less in their previous game.
Under is 4-1-2 in last 7 games following a win

Betting Analysis
The Rangers are one of the NHL’s most well-rounded teams and the NHL odds show as much. New York ranks in the top-6 in the NHL in goals per game (2.9), goals against (2.3), power play percentage (21.6%), and penalty kill percentage (84%). The Rangers were a completely different beast when Stepan was healthy and if he returns on Thursday, this line could end up looking like a steal. Take the Rangers on the road on Thursday night for your NHL picks.
