With four games listed on tonight’s NHL schedule, it looks as if half of the teams have decided to give their net minders a much needed break. Jetlag seems to be having its affect, as Ryan Miller (Buffalo Sabres), Tuukka Rask (Boston Bruins), Semyon Varlamov (Colorado Avalanche) and ) Carey Price (Montreal Canadiens) all have been given the night off.
Rask & Miller out in Bruins vs. Sabres
The Boston Bruins lead the way in the Atlantic Division, and they sport one of the league's best records. Tuukka Rask takes the night off as his club faces the worst team in the league, in the Buffalo Sabres, and the odds are still offering them as -220 favorites. With Buffalo coming off of a 3-2 victory over the Hurricanes, this could be a team eager to take advantage of an inexperienced goalie, while trying to sneak a few in.
Boston also holds the fifth position in league scoring, while averaging just over three points per game. With the Sabres also sitting USA Goalie Ryan Miller, the Bruins will likely surpass their season average. SBR Forum’s Dave Lawrence sees this as a great opportunity to jump on the low total offering of 5 points and grab the ‘Over’ at -130.
Quick Relieved of Duty in Kings vs. Avalanche
While the Los Angeles King’s will start Olympic Goalie Jonathan Quick, the Colorado Avalanche will give Russian Goalie Semyon Varlamov the evening off. Even in his absence, the NHL odds are still giving the Avalanche the upper hand over the Los Angeles squad.
Given the Kings poor performance heading into the break, SBR Forum’s David Lawrence also believes that the Avalanche will pull through with the win tonight. While Quick performed well in Sochi, the long trip could catch up with him tonight.
Price Takes Much Need Break in Red Wings vs. Canadiens
Fresh off of a Gold Medal performance, Carey Price will also be relieved of his post this evening. Even without their star net minder in place, we like this game to stay well below the proposed total of 5.5. While Canadian Coach Mike Babcock was able to lead his team to a Gold Medal in Sochi, his Red Wings have just not been able to find their rhythm this season. Add that to the list of injuries that the squad is facing, and we are looking at the ‘Under’.
