The Detroit Red Wings have had a tough time scoring goals on the road recently and that’s led to losses in four of their last five away games. On Wednesday, they’ll try and change that trend as they visit the New York Rangers, who are a small favorite on the NHL betting lines.

The Detroit Red Wings Can Win Because…
The Rangers are really banged up. The Rangers are missing a slew of blue liners, which has really cramped their style. After all, we’re talking about a team that wins games with defense and goaltending, and right now they’re just not getting strong play from those spots. Ryan McDonagh, Kevin Klein and Dan Boyle are out and that’s just off the blue line. Up front, Mats Zuccarello is questionable and Derek Stepan is likely to miss Wednesday’s game. Although the Red Wings are having a tough time scoring goals, going up against at thin blue line might be exactly what they need.

The Rangers are struggling mightily this season as they’ve lost three of four overall. They’re also not a good home team as they have just three wins in seven games at Madison Square Garden. The Red Wings are good choice for your NHL picks here.

The New York Rangers Can Win Because…
The Red Wings are having a really tough time lighting the lamp in away games. Detroit scored four goals in their first road game of the season in Toronto but has scored just 10 in the five subsequent away games. Last night, they barely mustered one goal in Ottawa against the Senators and that’s after only making it to two against the hapless Buffalo Sabres on Sunday night.

The Rangers have been struggling lately but that’s been against good competition. They lost to a quality Blues team on Monday and a red-hot Winnipeg Jets team on Saturday. Detroit is a much more manageable opponent, which is why they should get the win here.

Outlook & Pick
It’s tough to choose a side in this spot as both teams are flawed. The Red Wings are probably the better team right now but they are really laboring on the road and are in a back-to-back situation after playing in Ottawa last night. As for the Rangers, they have home-ice advantage but are really banged up with injuries.

I’ll aim for an under here as the Rangers should play conservatively with so many defensive injuries and the Red Wings are scoring much anyways in road games. The NHL odds boards are offering the total a bit higher than they should, leaving us in a prime spot to grab the 'Under'.
