This insightful betting preview article was written by our NHL handicapping guru before the news was released that Rangers vs. Sabres was postponed.

Metropolitan versus Western New York NHL Clash
The Sabres were scheduled to host the Rangers on Friday at the First Niagara Center in Buffalo with the opening puck drop slated for 7:05 PM ET. According to the NHL betting odds at Bookmaker, the Rangers were a -200 money line favorite, and the posted total was 5.0. This would have been the first meeting of the season between these two Eastern Conference clubs. The Rangers won all 3-games versus the Sabres a season ago, and each of those 3-contests stayed under the total. As a matter of fact, these teams haven’t seen any of their previous 12-meetings go over the total.

Something to build on for “The Blue Shirts”
The New York Rangers were able to snap a 3-games losing streak with a 2-0 home win over the Flyers on Wednesday. Despite the win, the Rangers have lost 7 of their last 10-games. This looked to be a prime spot for them to pick up their 2nd consecutive victory. They will be facing a Buffalo team which has gone 5-15 (.250) against the money line this season. The Rangers have gone a perfect 7-0 on the road the past 2-seasons, versus an opponent with a winning percentage of .250 to .400. The Rangers would have entered Friday’s game with a 8-11 money line record on the season, and that includes just 2-4 on the road.

Break up the Sabres
The Buffalo Sabres are coming off a 4-1 home win over the San Jose Sharks on Wednesday. It took them 20-games into the season, but the Sabres were finally able to string together 2-wins in a row for the first time in the 2014-2015 campaign. Buffalo scored 3-goals or more in just 2 of their first 17-games of the year. However, they’ve accomplished that feat in each of their previous 3-games. If the Sabres having any notions of winning 3 in a row then they’ll have to overcome a personal obstacle. Buffalo has gone a dismal 0-13 during last 2-seasons, following a game in which they allowed 1-goal or less, and they lost those contests by an average of 2.1 goals per outing.

NHL Totals Betting System
This system is a no fail for my NHL pick: It's easy, any home team (Buffalo) with a total of 5.0 or less, that’s scored 3-goals or more in each of their previous 3-games, and they’re averaging 2.55 or less goals per game on the season, has seen 85 of those 131-games (64.9%) go under the total since 1996.

Free Pick: Rangers/Sabres to go under the total of 5.0
