The Anaheim Ducks start a 3-game Western Canada road trip having won four of their last five; they’ll face the struggling Vancouver Canucks at Rogers Place at 10 p.m. ET Tuesday.

Welcome to 2018! I hope everyone had a safe New Year’s Eve.

We certainly finished up 2017 like a champion, but that’s behind us and now it’s time to focus on making this our best NHL wagering year yet. There was just one game Monday so I didn’t get a write-up done, but in the future I’ll try to get something up as soon as I find what number we’re dealing with. I generally like to allow the money to marinate a bit before I jump in, but judging from some Twitter responses I’ll need to get something up next time.

We went over the huge slate of games this morning on the "Ice Guys Show." If you didn’t see it, make sure to go the SBR YouTube channel to check it out. We go through every game and give our best bets out at the end. Ian Cameron hosts the show along with Alex B. Smith, Andrew McInnis, and myself as co-host.

Last month, the Vancouver Canucks slipped back into who we thought they would be with a less-than-average 4-8-1 record. They haven’t won back-to-back games since a three-game streak in early December, due mostly because of injuries led by the loss of Bo Horvat, who takes a certain 25-30 goal scorer out of the lineup. Horvat is listed as week-to-week with a fractured ankle. I’m not a huge fan of the Ducks, but I do know they are still a solid defensive team which should serve them well against the unpredictable Canucks' Top 6.

One thing is certain; the public loves the OVER in this game. According to the SBR odds page, more than 60% of all tickets written have come in with OVER written on them, but that hasn’t swayed the big money in any way as the large money wagers have pushed this number from -126 to -130, shaded to the UNDER in most spots. You can still find a reasonable -124 at 5Dimes. Classic pros vs joes scenario tonight.

Speaking of injuries, it seems like the Ducks have been the host of such talk all season and the present isn’t any different. Corey Perry is close to practicing with the team, but the Ducks will definitely be without their top left winger tonight. Until Randy Carlyle’s club gets healthy, it’s tough to have any measure of confidence that the league’s 25th-ranked offense will find lightning in a bottle.

Although the Canucks have scored 23 goals in their last seven games and own a recent win over Chicago, I see tonight’s game having more of a resemblance to their 3-1 loss to the St. Louis Blues than their win over Chicago.
