The Rangers are in a solid spot to make the playoffs but they face the Penguins who are only 3pt from being on the outside of the playoff picture in the East. Check out my NHL pick here.

N.Y. Rangers vs Pittsburgh Penguins
I'm not convinced that we can start to rely on the New York Rangers to be a solid offensive team on the road yet.

In their last two road games the Rangers have scored a total of five goals with both games going under the total. With four of the last five Ranger games cashing the 'under' it's beginning to feel like New York is getting into playoff mode with their reliance on their defense to win hockey games. The only game to go over the total was a 5-2 loss to New Jersey a game where the Rangers still only managed two goals.

New York has had their inconsistency's on the road this season but over their last six contest they've allowed only 12 goals, including a 3-0 shutout of the Penguins on February 10th.

Rangers goaltender, Henrik Lundqvist has has a 1.35 goals-against average while starting each off the last 13 meetings with Pittsburgh. He's allowed just three goals while facing 119 shots over his last four meetings against the Pens.  Overall the Rangers have allowed just 18 goals in the last 13 meetings against Pittsburgh.

Pittsburgh Goaltender, Marc-Andre Fleury, is 17-6-2 with four shutouts at home this season.

The Penguins squandered a 2-1 lead against the Washington Capitals, Tuesday, to fall 3-2. Washington was physical with Pittsburgh which seemed to bother Pittsburgh. They cant expect the same tactics against New York. Pittsburgh insist that its speed and neutralize and physical play but that wasn't the case against the Caps.

When Mike Sullivan was named Pittsburgh Head Coach his team starting to play with a little more speed and confidence but as the season rolls on and the games become more intense it seems Pittsburgh can't match that intensity.

Leading scorer Sidney Crosby has only six points in his last 13 meetings against New York. Evgeni Malkin didn't play in their last meeting but he only has not found the score sheet in six previous meetings. Malkin has only one goal in the three games he's been back after missing 10 games.

Betting Analysis
The Penguins appeared to have their offensive skates on in a 6-0 victory over Arizona Monday but they scored two goals in 50 seconds to push this game 'over'. Outside of a solid first period they played uninspired hockey.

Pittsburgh's power play has been non-existent lately hitting on only 1 of 24 chances in their last 11 games.

I'm not sure its a good thing but NHL odds history is certainly on the side of 'under' in this one. In their last 23 games, playing on one days rest, 15 of Rangers last 23 games have gone 'under' with four 'pushes'.

Five of the previous six meetings in Pittsburgh have gone under the total including four straight overall in the series.

We're backing the 'under' as our NHL pick in this one. @DanaLaneSports
