Another giant win for my readers last night at the Dallas Stars squeaked by the Chicago Blackhawks in overtime last night so I decided to follow my money to Colorado to see if they’re the gift that keeps on giving. We’re jumping on tonight’s TOTAL for tonight’s winner. We see there are various books offering a 6 on the game so make sure you shop because it’s the 5.5 that we’re looking for. According to the SBR odds page there are a large number of bets coming in on the OVER so get the 5.5’s right now before they’re gone.

It seems these two teams always play at the Pepsi Center, perhaps because this will be the third time they’ll play in Denver of the four total games. Of the three games played the UNDER has hit twice but we know there is OVER potential when these teams combined for eight goals at the end of October. Last time out the Avalanche handed Ken Hitchcock’s team a shutout (3-0), I’m not sure I’m anticipating another defensive effort like that against the Stars who have shown signs of being one of the best offensive teams in the league. Over the last two weeks, the Dallas offense is 10th in goals scored even though their shots per game have dropped.

The Avalanche aren’t usually the first team you think about when the revenge factor is in play but the Pepsi Center hasn’t been a pleasant host to the Stars this season as they’ve been outscored 8-3 in two games. Funny how that average falls right on 5.5. It’s reasonable to anticipate either a focused offensive effort or sloppy play because they played last night against the Chicago Blackhawks. Both scenarios help our bet.

BTW, this season you can count on Colorado to do their part offensively. The Avalanche have quietly been a top ten offensive team this season averaging 3.17 goals per game, good for 8th between the St. Louis Blues and Chicago Blackhawks.

Jonathan Bernier will start in goal for the Av’s opposing Kari Lehtonen for Dallas. Bernier has goals against of just under 3.00 (2.99) and will be playing in his first game since allowing three goals on 28 shots against Calgary 10 days ago. Bernier has never been a goalie that screams and UNDER bet. Speaking of which, Kari Lehtonen owns a .897 save percentage which is probably why he’s only started five games this season with the last one against Edmonton resulting in getting pulled early in the second period.

Both teams like to get up and down the ice with two goaltenders who are way below average, yea, that’s a ticket casher for your NHL picks tonight.
