Two slumping Original Six teams will square off on Sunday when the Detroit Red Wings visit the Chicago Blackhawks. Both need points in the worst way as they slip down the standings.

The Detroit Red Wings Can Win Because…

The Blackhawks are a very average team right now. The defending Stanley Cup champs just look like they don’t have it in them to repeat. They’ve lost two straight and five of eight. Beyond that, they’ve won just 10 of their 25 games in 2014 are costing bettors a ton of money with their NHL picks.

The issue is their offense, which is having a tough time producing. The Blackhawks have scored two goals or less in seven of their last nine. They’re simply not a team you can lay nearly -200 with on the NHL odds right now.

The Chicago Blackhawks Can Win Because…

The Red Wings are slumping. They’ve dropped four of six and are on the cusp of missing the playoffs. While the Blackhawks are slumping too, there’s a 17-point difference between these teams in the standings and that speaks to the difference in quality between these teams. Case and point: the Red Wings are just 9-15 against teams with a winning record.

Chicago dominates this series as they’ve won 12 of the last 18 meetings overall and seven of the last nine when they’ve been the host.

Outlook & Pick

This is a game where you’ll want to stay away from the sides. The Blackhawks have owned this series but they’ve been slumping in the worst way. There’s no way you can lay this type of juice with them. On the flip side, Detroit is also laboring and isn’t worth a bet here either.

Instead, take the under. 11 of the last 14 meetings – and five straight meetings in Chicago – have gone under the number.

Pick: Under 5.5 at Bovada
