The Boston Bruins gave Roberto Luongo nightmares when he was a member of the Vancouver Canucks. Will they haunt him one more time now that he’s in Florida? What tale do the odds tell!

Contenders & Pretenders on the Stanley Cup Odds Boards

The Boston Bruins Can Win Because…

They own this series. The Bruins have won all four matchups this year and seven straight. The Panthers don’t have the offense to keep up and they can’t match the Bruins in terms of defense either. Case and point: the Bruins have outscored the Panthers by a margin of 28-8 in those seven wins.

The Panthers might have home-ice advantage here but it doesn’t really matter. They’ve dropped four of their last six at home and are just 12-17 in front of their audience. The Bruins will capitalize.

The Florida Panthers Can Win Because…

Roberto Luongo has given the franchise a shot in the arm. He was acquired by the Panthers at the trade deadline and he promptly came in and earned his fourth shutout of the year. The Panthers have been struggling to find a franchise goaltender for quite some time now and Luongo gives them an immediate upgrade. The Panthers season had been a complete waste but with some young players surrounding Luongo, the Panthers can now focus on finishing the 2013-14 season on a high note and carrying over some momentum into next year.

Outlook & Pick

The Bruins are in a back-to-back situation and are playing their third game in four nights. That being said, they should still be the choice for your sports picks simply because of how one-sided this series has been lately.

For me, the juice is too high on the Bruins, so I’ll take the under on the hockey odds board instead. Luongo should do his part to keep this game low-scoring while the Bruins have allowed the second-fewest goals in the NHL this season, so they’ll do their share too. Six of the last seven meetings have seen five goals or less, so under is the best choice for your NHL picks.
