Are you looking for any NHL betting edges you can find in the Penguins/Canadiens game tonight? Then read this informative hockey betting preview article by our resident NHL handicapping expert.

Elite Eastern Conference Showdown
The Canadiens will host the Penguins today at the Bell Centre in Montreal. This will be a battle of two of the best teams in the Eastern Conference, and the opening face-off is slated for 7:35 PM ET. According to the NHL betting odds at Pinnacle, the Penguins are a -120 money line favorite, and the posted total is 5.0. This will be the first meeting of the year between these clubs, and Montreal won 2 of the 3-games versus Pittsburgh a season ago.

Two Red-Hot Teams
The Pittsburgh Penguins enter today having won the last 2, and 9 of their last 10-games. They’ve seen 6 of those 9-wins come by 3-goals or more. As I illustrated in my article on the Eastern Conference, the Penguins special teams are the best in the NHL this season, and by a wide margin. The power play is converting on an off the charts 32.3% of their chances, and the Penguins have only allowed opponents to cash in on a paltry 11.9% of their man advantage opportunities. The Penguins have started the year by going 12-4 against the money line, and have outscored opponents in the first two periods of games this season by a cumulative score of 44-21.

The Montreal Canadiens go into today’s game riding a 6-game winning streak, and have outscored the opposition 24-7 in the process of doing so. They’ve allowed 1-goal or less in 5 of those previous 6-games. Montreal has gone a stellar 14-5 against the money line to start the year, including an extremely profitable 8-2 at the Bell Centre in Montreal. The one glaring weakness for the Canadiens has been their slow starts. Montreal has been outscored 15-6 during the first period of games so far in the 2014-2015 campaign.

Final Analysis
This one is an extremely tough call, and I won’t be making one of my personal NHL picks for today on this contest. However, having to make a choice for the good folks over at Sportsbook Review, I’m going to lean toward taking the team with the superior special team edge in this matchup.
