We’ll be examining the NHL puck-line on tonight’s game between Detroit and St. Louis. Join us to read our insightful NHL betting preview article which concludes with a puck-line selection in this contest.

Wings Land in St. Louis on Thursday
The St. Louis Blues will entertain the Detroit Red Wings on Thursday at 8:05 PM ET. I’ll be concentrating on the puck-line in this particular contest for one of my NHL picks today. The NHL odds at BetOnline indicates that St. Louis is -1.5 (+180) and Detroit +1.5 (-210) on the puck-line.

Tough Spot for the Wings
Tonight will be the finale of a grueling six game in thirteen day road trip for the Detroit Red Wings. Contrarily, they’ll be facing an opponent (Blues) this evening which will be playing their fourth of a seven game in twenty-one day home stand. The Red Wings are coming off a 3-1 win at Buffalo on Tuesday. Detroit has gone 3-8 this season following a game in which a combined four goals or less were scored.

Blues start to Sizzle
The St. Louis Blues will enter tonight riding a five game winning streak. During that five game run they’ve been absolutely dominant, scoring 29-goals, and outscoring the opposition by an average of 3.8 goals per game. Brian Elliott will be in goal for the Blues tonight. Elliott is 7-3 at home this season with a stellar .928 save percentage, and that includes posting three shutouts.

Final Analysis
The Blues are coming off a 4-2 home win over the Edmonton Oilers in their previous game. As I alluded to earlier, Detroit is coming off a 3-1 road win versus their Atlantic Division rival the Buffalo Sabres. Those two results lead us to a money line betting system which also uncovers value on the puck-line as well.

Any money line home favorite (Blues), coming off a home win, versus an opponent (Red Wings) coming off a road win versus a team from within their own division, has seen the home favorite go 49-11 (81.7%) during the past five seasons, and have a huge +1.5 goal per game differential. This system has also gone 6-1 this year, and 26-4 during the past three seasons.

NHL Pick: Play on St. Louis -1.5 (+180) over Detroit on the puck-line at BetOnline.
