Our NHL betting odds guru comes off a 2-0 yesterday with winners on the Lightning and the Ducks/Sabres over the total. He provides us with a NHL betting preview article on the game tonight between the Rangers/Islanders that includes a free pick.

City Versus the Island at MSG
The Rangers will host the Islanders today at Madison Square Garden in New York with the opening puck drop slated for 7:05 PM ET. According to NHL betting odds, the Rangers are a -130 money line favorite, and the posted total is 5.5 at The Greek. The road team has won 7 of the last 8-meetings between these teams. The Rangers have gone 10-4 in their last 14 versus the Islanders. These teams have seen 7 of their last 10-meetings at Madison Square Garden go over the total.

Great Start for the Isles
Despite being only 2-games into the season for the Islanders, they’ve jumped out to a very encouraging start. They played a home and home with the Carolina Hurricanes over the weekend, and came away winning both games. They opened the season on Friday in Raleigh and were 5-3 winners, the following night they defeated Carolina 4-3 on home ice. The Islanders have gone 9-1 during their last 10-games when facing an opponent that allowed 5-goals or more in their previous game. If the Islanders hope to be part of the 2015 Stanley Cup Playoffs, they must clean up their play in their own zone. They allowed the 3rd most goals (267) in the entire NHL last season, only the Florida Panthers (268) and Edmonton Oilers (270) surrendered more.

Shaky out of the Gate
The Rangers opened the season last Thursday at St. Louis, and stole a game they had absolutely no business winning in a 3-2 defeat of the Blues. Their raggedy play in the season opener caught up with them in their previous 2-games. They were a 5-2 loser at Columbus on Saturday, and then were embarrassed a 6-3 loss at home by Toronto on Sunday. They went over the total on Sunday for just the 8th time in their last 33-games at home. The 11-goals allowed over the past 2-games is a bit concerning, considering this is a team that allowed the 2nd fewest goals in the Eastern Conference, and the 4th fewest in the entire NHL a season ago.

NHL Betting System
Any conference money line home favorite (Rangers) that’s lost 2-games in a row, coming off a money line conference home loss in which they allowed 6-goals or more in their previous game, has gone 18-7 (72%) since 1996. Place your NHL pick on the Rangers for tonight's match.
