According to NHL betting odds the Rangers are a -160 money line home favorite and the posted total is 5.0. The Rangers have defeated the Blue Jackets in 4 of their last 5 meetings. The home team has won 8 of the last 11-games played between these teams.
The Discomforts of Home
The complete renovation of Madison Square Garden that wasn’t completed until the middle of October caused the Rangers to have to play their first 9-games on the road this season. Unfortunately for the Rangers organization, the lavish comforts of home haven’t translated to wins. The team has lost their last 4, and 7 of their last 8 home games. Tonight will be their 4th of a 9-game in 17-day home stand in which they’re 0-3 so far. Fortunately for the “Blue Shirts” they’ve been very productive on the road going a respectable 10-8. Currently the Rangers are 9th overall in the Eastern Conference, and just 1-point behind the Carolina Hurricanes for 8th. Henrik Lundquist is scheduled to be in goal tonight for the Rangers.
Up and Down Jackets
The Columbus Blue Jackets comes off a thrilling 5-4 home win over the New Jersey Devils on Tuesday night. Nick Foligno scored the game winner for Columbus with just 1:31 left in the 3rd period and allowed them to overcome an early 3-1 deficit. The win was their 3rd in 4-games. The early part of the season has been filled with many ups and downs thus far. Their longest winning streak so far has been only 3-games, while they’ve endured separate losing streaks of 3-games, 4-games, and 5-games. Columbus has sustained injuries to key players which certainly impeded their progress. James Wisnewski, Nathan Horton, Marian Gaborik, and goaltender Sergie Bobrovsky are some of the top players for the Blue Jackets who are all currently sidelined. Curtis McElhinney is scheduled to be in goal tonight for Columbus.
