Wednesday NBC Sports National TV Game Flyers/Capitals
The Washington Capitals will host the Philadelphia Flyers on Wednesday at 8:05 PM ET. The game will be televised nationally in the United States on the NBC Sports Network. The focus of this NHL betting preview article on this game will be geared toward the puck-line. According to the NHL odds at 5Dimes, The Capitals are -1.5 (+175), and the Flyers +1.5 (-190) on the puck-line. These teams met once this season, and the Flyers came away with a 3-2 overtime win this past Friday at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia. Dating back to last season, the Flyers have defeated the Capitals in each of their previous four encounters.
Recent Road Woes
The Philadelphia Flyers enter tonight having won three of their last four games. However, it must be noted, that all of those previous four games took place on home ice. The Flyers have dropped five games in a row on the road, and were outscored by a cumulative score of 19-9. As a matter of fact, four of those five losses came versus opponents with a less than .500 winning percentage. Ray Emery is the listed as the probable starting goaltender tonight for the Flyers. Emery has been horrible in eight road starts this season as evidenced by a poor .869 save percentage in those outings.
Starting to Roll
The Washington Capitals enter today having won five of the last 6, and thirteen of their previous eighteen games. They’ve also been victorious in their last five games on home ice. Braden Holtby is scheduled to start in goal tonight for Washington. Holtby has played exceptionally well during his previous four starts, compiling an excellent .944 save percentage in those outings. The Capitals power play has been very good this season by converting on 24.0% of their man advantage opportunities. They’ll have a favorable chance of exploiting the Flyers tonight in that regard. Philadelphia has allowed opponents to cash in on a very high 26.0% of their power play chances.
I’m going to ignore the Flyers recent success over the Capitals by placing my emphasis on the here and now. One team (Washington) has been red-hot at home, and the other (Philadelphia) has struggled in recent games on the road. I look for the Capitals to get big time revenge tonight over their Metropolitan Division rival, and that will be my intention when making my NHL picks for today.
NHL Picks: Play on the Capitals -1.5 (+175) over the Flyers on the puck-line at 5Dimes.
