The Washington Capitals are coming off a loss, while the Detroit Red Wings are coming off a surprising win. Can the Red Wings win and cash on the NHL betting lines as they fight for playoff survival?

The Washington Capitals Can Win Because…
They’ve been playing well since the All-Star break. Yes, the Capitals are coming off a loss on Saturday but that was a 4-3 loss in overtime to the Ottawa Senators, who are one of the hottest teams in the NHL these days. Even with that loss, the Capitals have won seven of their last 10 games.

Their offense has been clicking as they’ve averaged 3.2 goals per contest over their last 10 and at the other end, Braden Holtby has been strong between the pipes too. He has a 2.19 GAA and .924 save percentage since the All-Star break.

The main issue for Detroit these days is that their goaltending has been letting them down. They allowed 3.20 goals per game in the month of March, which is the third-worst number in the league. They only gave up two goals to the Wild on Saturday but it’s quite disconcerting that they’ve been allowing so many goals.

With their defense struggling and the Caps offense clicking, take Washington with your NHL picks.

Should you place your NHL pick on Ovechkin to win the MVP Trophy this year?

The Detroit Red Wings Can Win Because…
They need this one much more than Washington does. When you take a look up at the standings, the Red Wings are just three points inside of the playoff cut right now, which means it’s do or die time. The Ottawa Senators are red hot right now and have been chasing them down, so Detroit can’t mess around with just four games left in the season.

The Red Wings are coming off a big win as they went into Minnesota and cash as an NHL betting underdog. It’s no coincidence that they got the win on Saturday as Pavel Datsyuk returned to the lineup. He’s one of the best players in the league and when he’s playing, the Red Wings are a significantly different team.

Detroit has played well in this series – especially at home. They’ve won 10 of the last 14 as the host in this series. Those are some of the reasons to take them with your NHL picks.

The Red Wings are slumping right now and even though they got Datsyuk back on Saturday, it doesn’t mean that their funk is over. They’ve now lost 11 of 16 and the big concern is what’s happening between the pipes. Neither Jimmy Howard or Petr Mrazek has been reliable for quite some time now. After Howard started on Satruday, Mrazek will get his turn on Sunday.

Although Washington doesn’t play great in Detroit, Sunday could be a different story. They’ve been playing well and their offense has been lighting the lamp with regularity. Take them as NHL odds underdogs in this spot to cash in.
