Hockey Night in Canada
The Maple Leafs will play host to the Bruins on Saturday at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto with the opening puck drop slated for 7:05 PM ET. According to the NHL odds at Pinnacle, the Bruins are a -110 money line favorite, and the posted total is 5.5. These teams split their 4-games against each other a season ago, and the two games in Toronto both went over the total.

Slow out of the Gate
I still contend when it’s all said and done at the end of the regular season, the Bruins will be near or at the top of the Eastern Conference standings. However, currently they’ve hardly resembled one of the elite teams in the NHL like they’ve been during the past 4-seasons. Boston is coming off a 3-2 home loss on Thursday at the hands of the Islanders. The defeat dropped their record to 4-5 on the year. Tukka Rask has proven to be one of the top goaltenders in the world over the past couple of seasons, but his start to this season has been far from that standard. Rask has posted a below average .880 save percentage in 6-starts, and that includes a poor .866 in 3-starts on the road. There’s a positive going into tonight that the Bruins can hang their hat on. The Boston Bruins have gone 23-6 during the past two seasons when playing on a Saturday.

No Leafs No at Home
Toronto has lost 3 of their first 4-games at home this season as part of a 3-4 overall start. They’re coming off an impressive 5-2 road win in Uniondale, New York over the Islanders this past Tuesday. The offensive production was a welcome sight for Leafs fans, following losses of 1-0 and 4-1 at the hands of the Detroit Red Wings in their previous 2-games. Toronto has gone over the total in 14 of their 17-games the past 2-seasons when facing an Atlantic Division opponent.

Final Analysis
These are two teams that are tough to get a read on in the early going. The Leafs only win at home this season came versus Colorado who was a dismal 1-6 heading into the weekend action. Toronto was outscored 13-6 in their three losses at home. It’s just a matter of time before the Bruins go on a huge winning run. It might as well start tonight. I’m going to use the road team in this game as one of my NHL picks for today.
