The Phoenix Coyotes played last night in Winnipeg and now have a quick turnaround with a Friday game in Colorado. We’ll see if they can take care of business as they try to stay afloat in the Western Conference playoff race.

The Phoenix Coyotes Can Win Because…

The Avs have been struggling. They’ve lost three of their last four games and the latest loss might be the most disturbing. On Wednesday, they hosted a Los Angeles Kings team that had scored just eight goals in their eight previous games. However, the Avs gave up six to them in the 6-4 loss.

The Coyotes play well in this series as they’ve won six of the last eight meetings overall and three of their last four trips to Denver.

The Colorado Avalanche Can Win Because….

The Coyotes are not a great road team. They’ve lost eight of their last nine away games and have been a costly investment for your sports picks if you’ve been backing them in road games. They are 8-16 on the road when facing a total of 5.5 and that’s cost bettors 8.0 units. On the flip side, the Avs are 15-7 when at home with a total of 5.5 and have been profitable for a good +3.8 units.

The Coyotes will be gassed after a late night in Winnipeg on Thursday. The game went into overtime and required a shootout, yet Phoenix came up empty 3-2. Because of the scheduling, they simply won’t be able to maintain their freshness. Bet the Avs with your NHL picks.

Outlook & Pick

With an opening line of -140, that’s right on the border of where I’m will to go with the Avs. If it goes up – as I expect the NHL odds to do – I’d stay away. However, at -140, I still see the Avs as being the better, fresher team. Plus, they’re at home.

Pick: Avalanche -140 at Pinnacle
