Normally, I’d look for more underdogs in an effort to add to our bottom line, while protecting our winning season, but tonight we’re running with the Pittsburgh Penguins who are a small favorite over the Chicago Blackhawks.

Chicago Blackhawks vs Pittsburgh Penguins

We just missed the ‘over’ in last night Bruins, Predators game but the beauty of getting a plus money ticket is we only dropped a unit off our bankroll.  That’s properly managing your account as the season winds down ensuring that we’ll end the season making a profit.

Sometimes bettors don’t need to overthink their handicapping as is the case when the Pittsburgh Penguins are playing at home where they’ve won 54 of their last 71 home games.  When applying that home dominance to a better team like Chicago, we see even the mighty Blackhawks struggle, losing 7 of their last 11 trips to the ‘Steel City’ along with an overtime loss.  3-7-1 doesn’t inspire me to back Chicago against Pittsburgh who I still have on top of my power rankings.

I don’t think it will play out this way but many are viewing this game as a possible Stanley Cup preview.

The Blackhawks look like a team that has the Central Division wrapped up, although not official.  In Chicago’s recent visit to the state of Florida we witnessed a Blackhawks team who looked disinterested.  My followers were all over the Panthers in their first ‘Sunshine State’ match-up, a 7-0 Panther victory. You would have thought that you would have seen an improved effort in their next outing against Tampa Bay.  However,  after building a 3-1 lead, Chicago let their guard down and got sloppy in the neutral zone.  They got away from playing safe, disciplined hockey creating offensive chances for Tampa allowing the Lightning to steal a 5-4 overtime victory.

Chicago gave up 12 goals to Tampa and Florida.

Not surprisingly the betting publics are jumping on Chicago with 63% of all tickets written coming in on the Blackhawks at plus money against a team that is battling injury problems.  Regardless, this is still a team with the best player in the league, Sidney Crosby, and a team who’s depth is better than most teams top lines.

Let’s jump on the Penguins as they send a message to the rest of the league that they are still the team to beat.
