The New Jersey Devils host the Pittsburgh Penguins on Friday with a scheduled start time of 1:05 PM ET. Make sure to not miss out on our NHL prediction for your sports pick.

According to NHL betting odds the Penguins are a -130 money line road favorite and the posted total is 5.0. The Devils are 7-1 in their last 8 home games versus the Penguins. These teams have seen just 8 of their last 32 meetings go over the total. This will be the 4th meeting of this season between these clubs, with Pittsburgh winning both games at home, and New Jersey winning the other at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.

The Boring Devils

Heading into tonight the New Jersey Devils have seen the least amount of combined shots on goals per game, than any other team in the league. The Devils are the best in the NHL allowing opponents an average of just 25.0 shots on goal per game. Contrarily the Devils are last in the league averaging a paltry 25.2 shots on goal per contest. New Jersey has seen just 4 of their first 17 home games go over the total. The Devils have scored 2-goals or less in their last 3, and 4 of the last 5. New Jersey has earned at least 1-point in the standings in 6 of their last 7-games. They’re currently tied for 3rd in the Metropolitan Division, and in a 3-way deadlock for 8th overall in the Eastern Conference.

Penguins and Over

The Penguins have won their last 2, 9 of the last 10, and 14 of the last 16. They’ve also scored 4-goals or more in 6 of their last 8-games, and have gone over the total in their last 5 wins. Pittsburgh has also allowed 3-goals or more in their last 4, and 5 of their last 6-games. This will be the final of a 4-game road trip. The Penguins remain at #1 in the NHL on the power play converting on a robust 25.7% of their chances. Pittsburgh has won their last 8-games in a row versus Metropolitan Division opponents.

Final Analysis

My hat goes off to the Devils for getting themselves right back into the thick of the Eastern Conference playoff race, with still better than half the season to play. However, the Penguins are just playing too good right now to oppose at this cheap of a price to add them to our NHL picks, especially versus an opponent that I view to be average at best.
