Our NHL handicapper breaks down tonight’s game between the Panthers and Rangers. His betting preview article includes a NHL puck-line selection in this contest.

Panthers Invade Madison Square Garden
The New York Rangers will be hosting the Florida Panthers tonight at 7:05 PM ET. Our area of concentration on this game will be geared toward the puck-line. According to the NHL betting odds at Bookmaker, the Rangers are -1.5 (+145) and the Panthers +1.5 (-170) on the puck-line. Since the beginning of last season, the Rangers have gone a perfect 4-0 versus the Panthers, and outscored them by a cumulative16-8.

Florida is forcing in Reverse
The Florida Panthers were one of the early surprises in the Eastern Conference this season. However, their recent fortunes have taken a turn for the worse. They enter tonight having lost six of their last seven games. During that seven game stretch, the Panthers have allowed 27-goals which equates to an average 3.9 per outing. It’s hard to win in this modern era of the NHL when displaying that type of defensive futility. They also scored two goals or less in five of those last seven games. Florida will go with Roberto Luongo in goal tonight. Luongo has been anything but sharp during his last four starts, evidenced by his substandard .872 save percentage during that time.

The Rolling Rangers
After getting off to a disappointing start to the season, the New York Rangers are starting to resemble the team that made it to the 2014 Stanley Cup Finals. The defending Eastern Conference champions have gone a very profitable 17-5 against the money line during their previous 22-games. The Rangers will go with Henrik Lundquist in goal for this evening’s game. Lundquist has been outstanding in his previous four appearances, compiling a stellar .939 save percentage during that time. The Rangers have gone 9-3 in their last twelve at home. Their only three losses during that time came at the hands of the Montreal Canadiens, the New York Islanders, and the Tampa Bay Lightning. Those clubs currently reside in the top three spots of the Eastern Conference standings.

Final Analysis
These two teams are currently heading in opposite directions. In addition, the Rangers Henrik Lundquist has been vastly superior to the Panthers Roberto Luongo in each of their recent starts. I’ll be leaning toward a puck-line selection on the home team for one of my NHL picks today.
