Our NHL consultant shares his two top totals on this large card for Thursday. Join us in reading his betting preview article highlighting games between the Blues/Sabresand Islanders/Flyers.
St. Louis Blues vs. Buffalo Sabres 7:05 PM ET
Blues Offensive Explosions Plentiful
The Buffalo Sabres are the lowest scoring team in the entire NHL averaging only 1.9 goals per game. However, the St. Louis Blues have gone over the total in all six of their games this season, when facing an opponent which averages 2.4 goals or less per contest. The Blues are coming off a 2-1 home win over the Tampa Bay Lightning in their previous game, and easily went under the total of 5.5 on our NHL odds. St. Louis has gone over the total in ten of twelve this season following one or more games in a row that stayed under the number. The Blues are averaging a robust 4.2 goals per outing during their previous thirteen games, and they’ve seen just 26.1% of their road games go under the total this season.
Flood Gates remain Open in Buffalo
The Buffalo Sabres haven’t only been anemic offensively this season. They’ve also been the worst defensively in the NHL by allowing an average of 3.5 goals per game. As a matter of fact, the Sabres have allowed four goals or more in fourteen of their previous twenty-one games overall, and had seen just 21.2% of their previous twenty-three contests stay under the total. The Sabres met the Blues once this season and were a 6-1 road loser. Buffalo has gone over the total in all five home games this season, when revenging a road loss in which they allowed four goals or more.
This one has all the earmarks of a high scoring affair, and that’s exactly where my lean will be when making one of my NHL picks for Thursday.
NHL Pick: Play on St. Louis and Buffalo to go over the total of 5.5 at 5Dimes
New York Islanders vs. Philadelphia Flyers 7:05 PM ET
The Philadelphia Flyers goaltender Steve Mason has been sizzling hot over his last six starts. During that time, Mason has posted an excellent .950 save percentage, and he’s seen five of those six games stay under the total. Mason has been stellar in sixteen home starts during the 2014-2015 NHL campaign, compiling a stellar .935 save percentage in those outings.
Jaroslav Halak is slated to start in goal tonight for the New York Islanders. Halak has gone a terrific 13-1 in fourteen starts this season versus Metropolitan Division opponents, and posted an impressive .935 save percentage during those games.
NHL Pick: Play on the Islanders and Flyers to go under the total of 6.0 at BetOnline.
