Our Expert NHL handicapper Dana Lane explains how the dominance by the Oilers in game 5’s overtime will translate into Edmonton moving on to the second round, leaving the Sharks in the dust.

Sometimes you just have to know when to strike.

Last night, I recommended that we up our bet to a four unit play and it paid off as the Washington Capitals and Toronto Maple Leafs easily went under the ‘total’, when Justin Williams scored the overtime goal, giving the Caps a 2-1 win and a 3-2 series lead.  The win cashed a big four unit winner for my readers.

Back to the SAP Center tonight for game six between the Edmonton Oilers and San Jose Sharks. The Oilers lead the best of seven 3-2.

Edmonton has won 15 of their last 19 overall and 6 of their last 8 against the Sharks.

The best available number is available at Matchbook where you can take advantage of their generous six cent lines and their cash back promotion.

Even the biggest Sharks supporters have to admit that the way in which the Oilers rebounded, after being shutout 7-0 in game four, was impressive.

Milan Lucic was hitting every Shark in sight early on while the Oilers played with a renewed confidence. They showed resiliency against last years Stanley Cup finalist.  They looked like the team that I think can go to the Stanley Cup.

Even though the Sharks rallied from a two goal deficit, you never got the feeling that the Oilers didn’t carry the play.  With Edmonton's dominance over the third period and into overtime you have to anticipate that they’ll carry that over into game six.

I’m not sure how much better Sharks goaltender Martin Jones can be but even with his spectacular numbers (.957 save percentage) the Sharks are down 3-2 in the series.  San Jose has leaned too hard on Jones throughout the series with the exception of game four.

You can't convince me that the big guns for the Sharks, Joe Thornton and Logan Couture, are 100% as they seem to become less engaged as the game progresses.

It’s time for the Oilers to put a dagger into this series.
