The Pittsburgh Penguins closed out the Nashville Predators in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final, and it didn’t take long for the 2018 Cup odds to surface.  Let’s take a very early look at next season's numbers from Bovada.

Before you put some cash down on the Penguins to win a third straight title, let’s sit back and watch a little.  Goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury has waived his no-movement clause, which assures that he will not be in a Penguins inform next season.  He'll either get dealt or land in Las Vegas in the expansion draft with his wife reportedly looking for homes in the area. Having two solid netminders is one of the main keys to raising the Cup, and as it stands the Pens have only Matt Murray under contract.

Boston Bruins 33/1

We all know that the Bruins are in need of left-handed defensemen.  If they are able to find a way to get stronger on the back end this offseason, they should make noise in 2017-18.  As is the case with the Penguins, the Bruins must find a backup (to Tuukka Rask) in net.

Toronto Maple Leafs 16/1

I would get on the Leafs now because they are rumored to be adding a top defenseman.  If they add a Sami Vatanen or Jonas Brodin, their odds will go down.  This is already a team that has as much offensive pressure as any team in the East.

Philadelphia Flyers 40/1

We know that this isn’t the greatest of drafts, but the infusion of either Nolan Patrick or Nico Hischier will give the Flyers, who will  pick No. 2 overall, and their fan base new energy. This is a team that managed to put together a 10-game win streak last year and rank 5th in shots per game (31.5).

Nashville Predators 14/1

Strange that the defending Western Conference champions have around the same odds as the Dallas Stars and Minnesota Wild but with the Stanley Cup experience they just pocketed they will be in the mix next season.  It’s fair to say that the Predators outplayed Pittsburgh in many long stretches but experience was the difference in the end, experience the Predators now own.

Los Angeles Kings 18/1

They Kings will be improved with a full season from Jonathan Quick.  They resigned Tyler Toffoli, who must have a bounce-back season. If he can get back to his 30-goal plateau, the Kings should be more of a postseason threat.

Vegas Golden Knights 150/1

Hey, at least you can bet on them now.
