The Colorado Avalanche shocked a lot of bettors – including us – on Wednesday when they went into Anaheim and earned just their third road win of the season.

NHL Betting: Avalanche vs Kings Picks

Good thing we had the puck line and not the moneyline.

Can they make it two surprising road wins in a row while upending the Stanley Cup champs on Thursday?

Record: 117-138 (-1443)

The Colorado Avalanche can win because…

They just proved what they’re capable of. Few people believed it but the Avs cashed as a +210 road underdog in Anaheim on Tuesday. The Ducks were supposed to squad the Avs, who previously had registered just two road wins in 20 tries this season. On top of that, the Ducks were supposedly one of the best teams in the NHL while the Avs entered as the worst.

The Avs will surely have some confidence and momentum from the win. They’ve also topped the Kings once this season. In many cases, a back-to-back situation is a detriment to a team’s NHL odds but in this case, it might actually work in Colorado’s favor.

The Los Angeles Kings can win because…

The odds don’t favor the Avs. Let’s face it: there’s a reason why this is one of the worst teams in the league. There’s also a reason why they are only 3-15-3 on the road this year. The Kings are 14-4-1 at home and have won seven of nine at the Staples Center. And unlike the Ducks, they won’t show up half asleep.

The Ducks did the Kings a favor and while Colorado will likely be a game opponent now that they believe in themselves again, they aren’t going to leave L.A. with the win.

Outlook & Pick

There’s no way I’d take the Kings at -250 with my NHL picks and I’m not interested in the puck line as I do believe the Avs will have some pep in their step following the win. Instead, I’ll take the under. The Avs had scored two goals or fewer in seven straight prior to their four-goal outburst last night. A more focused Kings squad should limit them again.

Pick: Under 5 at Bodog
