Our NHL handicapper shares free picks 'over/under' the total for Wednesday focusing on the Calgary Flames vs. New Jersey Devils and Ottawa Senators vs. Anaheim Ducks.
Calgary Flames vs. New Jersey Devils
The New Jersey Devils will host the Calgary Flames tonight at 7:35 PM ET. According to the NHL betting odds at Pinnacle, the posted total in this contest is set at 5.0. These teams have met once this season, and Calgary was a 5-4 home winner in an overtime shootout. These clubs haven’t seen any of their previous six meetings in New Jersey go over the total.
Flames off Shutout Loss
The Calgary Flames are coming off a 1-0 loss last night at Madison Square Garden versus the New York Rangers. Calgary has seen each of their previous five games go under the total when playing with no rest. The Flames have now seen only five of their previous eighteen (27.8%) games on the road go over the number. However, last night was the first time the Flames had gone under the total since a 4-0 home loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins on February 6th. Jonas Hiller will be in goal tonight for the Flames, and he’s seen just five of his fifteen (33.3%) road starts go over the total this season, posting a stellar .920 save percentage in the process of doing so.
Devils Home Games Playing on the Low Side of the Ledger
The New Jersey Devils have seen just four of their last twenty-eight (14.3%) games at home go over the NHL odds total. As a matter of fact, New Jersey has gone over the total in just fourteen of their previous fifty-one (27.5%) games overall. Cory Schneider will once again be in goal for New Jersey this evening. He’s started on each occasion during this current four game winning streak that the Devils will carry into tonight. During those four outings, Schneider has compiled a terrific .960 save percentage, and posted one shutout.
NHL Picks: Play on the Flames and Devils to go under the total of 5.0 at BookMaker
Senators at “The Duck Pond”
The Anaheim Ducks will entertain the Ottawa Senators on Wednesday at 10:05 PM ET. According to the NHL betting odds at 5Dimes, the total posted for this game is 5.5. In their only meeting of the season, Ottawa was a 6-2 blowout winner over Anaheim on home ice.
The Ottawa Senators are coming off a 4-1 home win on Saturday, and the game stayed under the total of 5.5. That broke a string of four consecutive games in a row going over the number. Rookie Andrew Hammond is slated to be in goal for the Senators tonight, and this will be just his third career NHL start. The Senators have scored three goals or more in each of their previous five games, and averaged a robust 4.4 goals per contest during that time.
Ducks Goalie Currently Can’t Stop a Beach Ball
John Gibson will be starting in the seventh consecutive game in goal for the Ducks. Gibson has been horrible in his last four starts as evidenced by a pathetic .838 save percentage in those outings. The Ducks have averaged 3.0 goals per game at home this season, and have scored sixteen goals combined in their previous five games.
I like this one to be a high scoring affair, and my NHL picks for Wednesday will be reflective of just that.
NHL Picks: Play on Ottawa and Anaheim to go over the total of 5.5.
