After a fairly productive Saturday where we cashed in two of the three picks, let’s see if we can keep momentum on our side on Sunday. There are just six games on the card and we’ve got picks on three of them below:
Tampa Bay Lightning vs. Detroit Red Wings
Detroit has been a very streaky team this season. Right now, they’re slumping as they’ve lost four straight, which is the third time this season they’ve had a losing streak at least this long. Injuries are starting to catch up with Detroit as they’re without goaltender Jimmy Howard, who is dealing with an MCL sprain and is out for a couple of weeks. The team is still without Stephen Weiss and Henrik Zetterberg, and now Justin Abdelkader is expecting to miss Sunday’s game with a concussion.
Tampa Bay just beat the Red Wings 2-1 on Thursday and considering Detroit is an awful home team (5-13), there’s a good chance Tampa Bay wins again on Sunday. I’ll add them to my NHL picks.

Florida Panthers vs. Montreal Canadiens
There’s a low total on the board for this game but it still looks like it has good prospects to go under. The Canadiens have been a very good defensive team all season long as they’ve allowed the third-fewest goals in the NHL. Florida should be fairly easy to clamp down on as the Panthers have had a tough time lighting the lamp this season. Their 76 goals scored are the fourt-fewest in the NHL.
Montreal’s offense has also gone missing, though, which is why I like this under. Although the Habs were scoring at a healthy rate through the middle of November until the early part of December (averaged 3.3 goals in per game in their nine contests from November 19th to December 7th), they’ve scored a total of just two goals in their last three games. Florida has kept their opponent to two goals or less in four of their last five. I’ll look for an under in this one.

Los Angeles Kings vs. Chicago Blackhawks
I’m tempted to add the Kings to my sports picks on Sunday after watching what happened to the Blackhawks on Saturday night. The Blackhawks are without lead goaltender Corey Crawford for a few weeks and for the first time, that proved to be quite the problem. They lost 7-3 in Toronto and had to pull Antti Raanta after he gave up five goals in two periods. Backup Kent Simpson didn’t fare much better as he gave up two goals on just seven shots in the third period.
Now the Blackhawks have a quick turnaround and have to face one of the hottest teams in the league. They’ve won six straight and are now 12-3-2 on the road this season. Given the Blackhawks goaltending conundrum, the Kings are worth a shot on the NHL odds considering they are +130 underdogs.
