Top Expert Team Prop Picks

Gilbert: Panthers at Lightning first period Under 1.5 goals (+120)

The Panthers haven't allowed a first-period goal in two games –– while scoring two –– and only allowed 17 shots in those 40 minutes. Tampa Bay has also had slow-paced starts with no goals scored and just one goal against through three first periods. The plus odds on Under 1.5 provides great value given how the season has started for these teams.

McLaren: Blue Jackets to score first (+105) at Red Wings

The Red Wings are 1-0-1 to start the season after going 19-27-10 for the 2020-21 campaign. The strong point percentage is covering up the fact they’ve given up 90 5-on-5 shot attempts to their 51 through 80:01 of full-strength play. Columbus is 2-0-0 but with a 45.69 Corsi For percentage at 5-on-5. The Wings have also been much less disciplined with 10 power-play opportunities given up to the Jackets’ five. It’s a small edge in the head-to-head matchup but enough to back at plus-money.

Johnson: Sharks money line double (+425)

The Canadiens have been installed as high as -160 home favorites over the visiting San Jose Sharks but we find that a bit odd considering the Habs are 0-3 and have been outscored 10-3 over the young season. Granted, San Jose only has a 4-3 victory over the Winnipeg Jets on its record but there is a team prop that has us too tempted to ignore. The +425 in a money line double that the Sharks will win the first period and the game. Remember, ties lose, so if the game is tied at the end of one period, this prop flames.

Jordan: Kraken Under 2.5 team goals (-110)

We recommended the Kraken Under 2.5 goals for Monday’s game in Philadelphia because we were concerned the team might be getting worn down playing its fourth road game of the season. Seattle lost 6-1, so that was a winner – and the Kraken scored just once in back-to-back games. Obviously, the Kraken will only be that much more gassed Tuesday in New Jersey playing the second game of a back-to-back for the first time in franchise history and still without top-six forwards Yanni Gourde, Calle Jarnkrok and Marcus Johansson due to injury. Bet Under 2.5 goals (-110) again.

Top Expert Player Prop Picks

Gilbert: Lightning LW Ondrej Palat to record a point (-125)

Palat isn’t always mentioned among the Lightning’s best players like Steven Stamkos and Brayden Point, but he puts up points anyway. The winger had points in 33 of 55 games last season (a total of 46 points). Palat has two goals in three games this season and plays on both Tampa’s top line at even strength and power-play unit with Point.

McLaren: Lightning D Victor Hedman Over 0.5 points (-140)

Twenty-year-old Panthers G Spencer Knight will make his first start of the season and play in the fifth game of his young NHL career. He stopped 91 of the 99 shots he faced last year while going 4-0-0; however, the Lightning will be the toughest test he has faced yet. Florida’s poor penalty kill (three goals allowed on 13 chances) is a bad matchup for Tampa Bay’s 3-for-9 power play through three games. Hedman has five assists and is third on his team with 9:15 of power-play time.

Johnson: Sharks C Tomas Hertl anytime goalscorer (+225)

As long as we are staking our claim to the Sharks in this game, let’s stay on track and make money with a player prop. Let’s go with Hertl for an anytime goal. He was the team’s second-leading point-getter last season and already has a goal and an assist through one game this year. We can get +225 on our money if he scores at any point in the game and we will gladly take it!

Jordan: Palat Over 1.5 shots (-180)

Tampa Bay will be without former Hart Trophy winner RW Nikita Kucherov for the foreseeable future due to an undisclosed injury suffered in Saturday’s 2-1 win at the Washington Capitals. The Russian has a goal and three assists through three games, and he was the leading scorer in last season’s playoffs despite missing the entirety of the regular season. The biggest beneficiary of Kucherov’s absence should be Palat, who will take Kucherov's place on the Lightning's top power-play unit. Bet Over 1.5 shots for Palat (-180).
