The Buffalo Sabres are just one of two NHL teams that has yet to win a game this season. On Monday, they’ll welcome back a familiar face as Jason Pominville and the Minnesota Wild will visit. Can Buffalo finally get in the win column?

Record: 16-32 (-1269)

The Minnesota Wild can win because…

They’ve won two straight and are playing with some momentum. Meanwhile, the Sabres have shown that they are the worst team in the NHL. People making their sports picks figured they were a team in decline but the Sabres could be historically bad this season. Yes, they are bad now but keep in mind that they are already shopping their veterans like Ryan Miller and Thomas Vanek, and this team will get worse before it gets better.

The Wild have earned back-to-back wins by a combined margin of 7-2. They’ll be confident heading into Monday’s contest.

The Buffalo Sabres can win because…

The Wild’s success has come at home. Sure, the Wild won their last two games on their home ice but they’ve yet to win on the road this season. And before those two wins, the Wild had actually opened the season with three straight losses. Handicappers making their NHL picks shouldn’t assume that all is well for the Wild.

Buffalo has not played well but they did play Chicago pretty tough on Saturday in a 2-1 loss. That seems like a positive step and maybe that will carry over to Monday.

Outlook & Pick

The Sabres are a bad team and you should definitely be betting against them. That’s what we’ll do here, but we also like the total posted on the NHL odds boards, so we’ll also take the under as the Sabres have scored one goal or less in five of their six games this season.
