In Canada, those who get TSN will get to see the Ottawa Senators visit the Detroit Red Wings. People who subscribe to NBC Sports Network will also get to watch the Boston Bruins travel to (and likely beat up on) the Buffalo Sabres.
Ottawa Senators vs. Detroit Red Wings
This is a very important matchup even though it’s early in the season. Remember, three teams from each division get playoff spots and with the Metropolitan being a cakewalk compared to the Atlantic, which houses both the Senators and Red Wings, these contests are going to provide some very valuable points.
People who make their NHL picks should note that Ottawa is a bit of a misleading team. They are 3-3-2, which to bettors really means 3-5. They’ve lost four of their last six and haven’t beaten anyone elite this season (wins have come against Buffalo, New Jersey and Phoenix).
Their defense has proven to be far weaker than it was last season as they are allowing 3.0 goals per game (compared to 2.16 last season, which led the East). That being the case, I’ll take the Red Wings on the NHL odds in this spot.

Boston Bruins vs. Buffalo Sabres
At this point, there’s just no conceivable way you can go to the window – if you’re still betting at windows – and bet the Buffalo Sabres. We’re talking about a team that has one win in 10 games this season and has scored just 13 goals in those contests. They are coming off a loss where they scored two goals (lost 4-2 to Colorado on Saturday) and some people who make their sports picks might consider that a valiant effort when you consider that they’ve scored one goal or less in seven of their 10 games.
On Wednesday, they’ll host the Boston Bruins, who have won two straight and are 5-2-0 on the season. They lead the NHL in goals allowed with just 10 on the season. That figures to be a recipe for disaster for the Sabres.
Under and the Bruins puck line are the plays in this game. There’s no way I can take the Sabres with my sports picks.
