It’s a quiet night in the NHL with just two games on the schedule. We’ve got a quick rundown of the two contests, as well as two free picks worth adding to your NHL betting ticket tonight.

Record: 16-35 (-1569)

New York Rangers vs. Washington Capitals

NHL bettors might find it hard to believe that these two teams actually played in the postseason last year. The way they’ve looked this season, neither might return.

The Caps are just 2-4-0 with their only wins coming at home against Edmonton and Calgary. Those teams aren’t exactly Stanley Cup contenders. As for the Rangers, they’ve been horrendous with just one win in five games. What’s worse is that their defense/goaltending – their lone calling card – has been abysmal. The Rangers have allowed four or more goals in each of their four losses while giving up 25 in total. It’s hard to believe that Henrik Lundqvist, who is normally a Vezina Trophy candidate, has a GAA of 4.21 and a save percentage of .887.

Both of teams are broken but both are quite familiar with each other. They’ve faced each other in three straight postseasons, and I think that will be a factor in a low-scoring affair. Add the 'Under' to your sports picks tonight.

Pick: Under 5.5 at 5Dimes

Calgary Flames vs. Anaheim Ducks

I think you’d be crazy to lay -180 on the NHL odds with the Anaheim Ducks given how confident the Calgary Flames have been so far. The Flames were expected to be one of the worst teams in the league but surprise, surprise: they are 3-0-2 this season.

They are still a young team and betting them on road trips could be dicey. For now, I expect them to get back to their ‘over’ ways. The Flames have scored at least three goals in every contest and Anaheim has scored at least three goals in each of their last four games. Take the 'Over' with your NHL picks.

Pick: Over 5.5 at Bodog
