Swinging Johnson is off to a white hot start in the NHL so let's see if he can keep his mojo alive tonight when he picks out the best hockey bets on the board in NHL betting.

Swinging Johnson - NHL Record (4-1, +8.25 units)

*Games assigned 1 to 5 units.

Update:

Yes boys, we did it again last Tuesday when the Penguins roared back and caught the Bruins tuckered out in the 3rd period. While the game didn't go exactly as planned we added three more units to our burgeoning bankroll. Let's keep the dream alive as we pluck a few gems from the murky waters to find the best value for our NHL picks.

Tampa Bay Lightning (13-15-1) vs. Toronto Maple Leafs (15-12-2)

Let's cut to the chase in this one. The Lightning, led by one of the most dynamic young players in hockey Steve Stamkos, have won three of their last four and currently stand 2nd in the NHL in scoring. The Maple Leafs on the other hand can't seem to stop a beach ball. They have gone 0-3-2 over their last five and surrendered an average of four goals per game during that period.

On February 19th the Lightning chased a hot Toronto goalie, Ben Scrivens, out of the game when they scored on four of their thirteen shots against him. Well, Scrivens ain't so hot anymore and Stamkos has 20 points in 17 games against the Leafs. I'll take the hot team over the cold one any day and twice on Wednesday. It just so happens to be Wednesday.

San Jose Sharks (12-10-6) vs. Edmonton Oilers (11-11-6)

Okay so the Sharks have been playing more like guppies recently but that's going to end tonight because San Jose has had their way with Edmonton recently and based on the theory of regression analysis (yes, I'm an academic if nothing else), are due to break out of this midseason malaise.

Though the Sharks have lost six of their last seven at least they are beginning to awaken offensively averaging three goals per game over their last three. It's not much but it's a start for a team ranked near the bottom of the barrel in NHL scoring.

The NHL odds makers have made this a pick'em in this one but we disagree. We believe the Sharks are looking for blood tonight in Edmonton and should be the clear favorite even though their road record (4-9-2) suggests otherwise.

Chicago Blackhawks (24-2-3) vs. Anaheim Ducks (21-3-4)

We're nothing if not honest here so allow me to keep the tradition alive when I tell you that this game is not one where you bet the ranch...or even more than a few bucks. We have it on our NHL slate because it's two of the best teams in hockey squaring off and I'm going to watch it, even if I'm not really sure who's going to win it.

But lest you think I've lost my handicapping mind, I will say that this one should be a tight checking, low scoring affair. The last three times these teams have met the score has been a total of five or under. We see two teams that are ranked near the very top in both goals scored as well as goals allowed. While that may signal a red flag to those who are leery of playing Under when both teams are capable of lighting the lamp early and often, may I submit to you that both teams also have solid goaltending and team defense which will keep those snipers in check.

Free NHL Picks: Play Under 5 ½ (-120) for 2 units at Pinnacle.com.
