There are just four games on the schedule for Wednesday night and we’ve got previews on all of them. You’ll find the Boston Bruins-Pittsburgh Penguins preview featured separately and below, we’ve got NHL picks for the other three contests.

Washington Capitals vs. Toronto Maple Leafs
Odds: Maple Leafs -110
There’s typically the assumption that firing a head coach has an instant impact but I don’t see that happening here. The Toronto Maple Leafs fired head coach Randy Carlyle on Tuesday but it doesn’t mean this team will immediately turn things around. I’m not sure he was the problem. The Leafs have still dropped seven of nine and can’t seem to figure out how to keep pucks out of the net. Consider this when looking over the NHL odds.

On Wednesday, they’ll host a Capitals team that’s been playing well for over a month now. This team was 10-10-4 on December 4th but is now 20-11-7. They only have one regulation loss in their last nine, so there’s a very good chance they’ll be competitive. They’ve also been solid on the road at 11-6-3.

With the line being a PICK, I’ll take a shot with the better team here. Take the Caps with your NHL picks.

NHL Pick: Capitals -110 at The Greek

Detroit Red Wings vs. Calgary Flames
Odds: Flames -115
Detroit is a team that continues to be up and down, so we’ll be betting against them in this spot on Wednesday. Entering Tuesday, the Red Wings had lost two of three and eight of 11 with goal scoring being the main issue. In their three wins in that span, they have averaged 4.0 goals per game. In their eight losses, they have scored two or less in every single game.

Calgary is coming off a loss but has won four of their last five games overall. They’ll be the fresher of the two teams as they’ve been off since last Friday while Detroit played last night in Edmonton, so they’ll have a quick turnaround on the back-to-back. That being the case, invest in the Flames as a small favorite.

NHL Pick: Flames -115 at Diamond Sportsbook

New York Rangers vs. Anaheim Ducks
Odds: Ducks -129
The New York Rangers continue to be one of the hottest teams in the NHL as they head to Anaheim on Wednesday having won 10 of their last 11 games. They’re on absolute cruise control as goaltender Henrik Lundqvist is playing outstanding, their offense is tearing it up and they’re mowing down everything in their path. Anaheim will be a tough test, though, as the Ducks have more points than any other team in the NHL. They are also 14-4-3 at home.

This is a really tough game to handicap as it’s a very even matchup but I’ll go with the Ducks based on trends. They are 15-6 this season when facing a team with a winning record whereas the Rangers are just 9-9. And the Ducks are 4-1 this season when playing at home with a total of 5 or less. Lastly, the Rangers have played well on the road lately but on the season, they are 8-7 in away games and this one could be particularly tough, playing across the country in a different time zone. With that in mind, take a shot with the Ducks.
